    Windows 10 April 2018 Creator's Update won't install

Hello. I have been trying get the the April Creator's Update to work for months. It installs, then when the computer restarts it gets "stuck" at the Windows loading screen for a while, then once it it loads up it says the update has failed and it's "reverting changes". All this time I kept installing regular Windows 10 updates without issues. I'm at version 1709 of Windows 10 Pro 64bit. Any suggestions? Any logs I can check?

Hi, please post a screenshot of your partitions, using Minitool Partition Wizard, expanding columns as necessary so all text is visible.
To post a screenshot please use the Insert Image icon above your post.

    Basics:
    Uninstall any AV
    Disconnect unnecessary peripherals
Consider disconnecting all disks bar your system disk
    Please check your disk.
E.g. Download, install and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and post a screenshot of its GUI.
Make sure you have at least, say, 28Gb free on C: (or the size of your Windows folder + some extra).
Expect a new Recovery partition to be created of around 500Mb.

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and post the outcome.
From an admin command or powershell prompt:
    - Run chkdsk c: /scan and report the outcome
    - Run SFC /SCANNOW and report the outcome

    If ok
Attempt a manual upgrade using a previously downloaded iso file without accepting updates as part of the procedure. Report precisely any error message.

A list of some log files:
    C:\Windows\Panther
    C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther
The panther logs are often hidden. Configure file explorer so that you can find the hidden files.
Locate these logs and post share links in the forum:
    setuperr.log
    setupact.log
    setupapi.dev.log
    Setupmem.dmp
    BlueBox.log

    $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupmem.dmp
    $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback*.evtx
    $Windows.~bt\Sources\Rollback\setupapi\setupapi.dev.log

Trying to find out why it failed from the Windows update logs is not straightforward. Here are some guides.

Thank you for the response. I will have to take a deeper look at it using your suggestions when I get back home and I'll report back.

    Hi DalChina,

I have a similar issue, to Salad Fingers, with updating to 1803. My winver is 1709 build 16299.492 and keep getting "Something went wrong."
I have tried different forums and no suggestions have worked. I performed:
    - Run chkdsk c: /scan and report the outcome
    - Run SFC /SCANNOW and report the outcome
and report is no errors found, or something like that.

The only files I have found on my pc are the setuperr.log and setupact.log so can I use them to help with fixing why the 1803 update has been failing for months?
I'm a intermediate pc knowledge user and fix family/friends pcs often. Not sure why I have had issues with every version of windows OS's. I like win10 the best and it works well but update issues all the time.

    Hopeful

    Hey,
After sending last message I found a link to Quick Fixes to upgrading Windows Quick fixes - Windows IT Pro | Microsoft Docs

Is this link helpful to me and Salad Fingers?

Hi, that's a clear, sound, basic guide, most of which I've already suggested.

This tutorial (don't bother with the initial sections about upgrading from earlier versions)
Upgrade to Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials
    here:
    Resolve Windows 10 upgrade errors
has a huge amount of information if you follow the links and the further subsequent links.

Unfortunately there are many reasons why an upgrade may fail, and often the log/report is obscure, but the actual cause entirely trivial.

In other cases it's necessary to repair the existing installation, clean up partitions, uninstall conflicting software...

It may be necessary to attempt the upgrade manually, without simultaneous updates, or repair Windows update e.g.

"...can't tell if your PC has enough space..."

    Hi DalChina,

Before reading, in detail, the windows Quick Fixes l removed all external devices ( I have a lot, wow what an improvement in speed) and disabled my antivirus (as usual):

Now I get a blue window that says: " Windows 10 Setup - We can't tell if your PC has enough space to continue installing Windows 10. Try restarting Setup."
I have done this three times with same result and just thought you may how to get around this latest obstacle in upgrading to Win 10 1803 build.

    Any support is appreciated.
