    KB4343909 Update Fails Error 0x800f0922

The KB4343909 Update fails per the Error 0x800f0922 each time it goes through the update process gets to 96% then reboots and the following Windows Message comes up:

    We cannot complete the update
    undoing changes
    Don't Turn off your Computer

My Windows Pro Version is 1803 OS Build 17134.165 all other Updates are installed with no issues

After that completes the computer runs fine and the 0x800f0922 error message shows in the Windows Update Section this has failed 3 times. Each time when I go to shut down after this the options come up Update and reboot or Update and shut down and it continues to attempt to do the KB4343909 update. I have run the Reset Windows Update .bat file from the Forums it runs successfully however Windows continues to attempt the KB4343909 Update.......does it make sense to download the KB4343909 Standalone file from Microsoft and attempt the update in that method?

    Hi tktk88

    From an MS article

Result codes starting with the digits 0x800 are also important to understand. These error codes indicate general operating system errors, and are not unique to the Windows upgrade process. Examples include timeouts, devices not functioning, and a process stopping unexpectedly.

In no particular order I would check device manager for any devices that may have become suspect (yellow exclamation mark), run sfc /scannow, disconnect all non essential USB devices.
If nothing helps from that step I would be inclined to do an inplace repair / upgrade. You said you are on 1803 so this would be an inplace repair. I always recommend backing up personal data although this process is supposed to be non-destructive.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Are you running anything that alters windows, Privacy tools, tweakers, cleaners, menu overlays? Is so I would also disable those. For Feature updates, which this isn't, they recommend disabling third party AV's. Not sure if you are running any but AV's can interfere.

You can certainly try a manual install although I have my doubts as to what that will change.

    Ken:

Thanks for your response I checked Device Manager and no devices show errors or have the dreaded yellow exclamation mark displayed...I ran sfc /scannow from the elevated command prompt and got the following message :

    Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17134.165]
    (c) 2018 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 96% complete.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

    Any thoughts?

If scannow can't repair corrupt files. see if the following command can repair while connected to internet:

    C:\Windows\system32>Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Note: Some scans may stay at 20% for a while and may seem like it's hung, but let it sit running until finished.

    Ken:

Curious I am running 32 GB Intel Optane M1 Memory Module for the boot drive do you think I should disable the Optane Module and try the Windows Update with it disabled not sure if it effects anything with updates?

    I wouldn't.

sfc /scannow should not be failing.

I like mrgeek's idea but I would disable third party AV's, uninstall or disable tweakers, cleaners, privacy tools and menu overlays.

You could also do an inplace repair.

Certainly windows could have caused corruption but I'm just trying to determine if a third party tool that alters windows may be at root.

CCleaner may cause issues, there is a love hate with registry tuners on web.

Think I would lay off for a while. Maybe uninstall until you get Windows "running" again.

You could try dism (mrgeek) or do an inplace repair / upgrade. It is a non destructive process but I still recommend people have their data backed up. Very sure you said you are on 1803 so this is a repair. If not it will upgrade you to 1803, be aware.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

DISM is also very good. The TenForums tutorial for reference

Use DISM to Repair Windows 10 Image

Ok so I uninstalled CCleaner for now no big deal the only "non essential" usb device is my printer so should I just unplug it or unplug it and uninstall the drivers before trying the update and or sfc/scannow or sfc before attempting the update? Sorry for all the questions just rying to get the best sequence of events for this................
