What would a user use a reg file from tenforums tutorials for?
    - have a look at the tutorials and you'll see.
    Windows 10 Tutorial Index
    - searchable index

Where the equivalent of a group policy change in a tutorial can be applied in Home as a reg change, the .reg file is supplied. Many other cases too.

I don't see how to "unset" active hours. They are default 8-5 but if I try just removing them I cannot.
Active hours is a useful setting - suppresses restarts in the middle of work.
Click 'Change active hours' on that settings page.

Yes it does only appear after a big update is dl'ed before a restart. I guess for Home users this is sort of a bug, or like dalchina said is very poorly worded. I don't see how to "unset" active hours. They are default 8-5 but if I try just removing them I cannot.

Thank you dalchina that eases my mind and clears things up. Just to be completely clear, ccleaner is not the culprit here?

Well, that puts that to bed. At least I know that this is common although I'd love to know the root.

I have Pro & it shows on mine after a Windows update.

Ah I see. So the reg change is in this case adding a feature to Home that may not be exactly the same but it does the same thing.

    No.
    a. It does not 'add features'. The features you have are those in the build.
    b. The group policy editor is in effect a specialised form of registry editor. Find the change it makes, reproduce that as a reg file and you achieve exactly the same thing- provided it's allowed in Home.

So I guess Pro users see the message all the time if they are under a group policy. Thanks for directing me to the tutorials. I am going to try disabling active hours to test what Bastet is saying.

Okay now I understand. So if in the group policy editor the admin wants color only from printer #3 he can set that. And the equivalent change could be made directly in the registry with a reg file that would allow me to set that policy without having the editor (but I would need my own registry editor). The group policy editor looks like a nice tool. So if something is changed in there then that change actively alters registry keys? If I change a setting on my PC aren't I changing the registry?

There is a ‘these settings’ message on some which appear permantly for some users due to group policy settings but that isn’t the problem imo in this case, the error message I see appeared after the April update for everyone using active hours.

Just FYI, if you elect to turn off driver downloads in Windows Update that, too, triggers the message. I've got it on several of my Win10 Pro PCs for just that reason. Here's the tell-tale:

Thank you, that clarifies how Pro works for me a little...the group editor seems very useful.

So in Home driver updates is automatically on with no adjustment available (unless I use regedit to change it)? I have no problem with that just asking. Only adjustment I can make is to have it update other MS products.

Not true- if you look at the tutorials you can find how to hide updates (i.e. block a particular update) and turn driver updates on and off..

Good to know. I really need to bookmark that tutorials page.

I have been told to use the tenforums Beta Log collector for analysis by another user for my screen flickering issue after the last update. Is this a. safe to run and b. safe to share? Won't it have my IP adresse or other private information? Is this more effective than Verbose which I could enable with a reg edit (okay now I get it)

Also, I recently sent Logitech support my msinfo32, dxdiag, and setupapi.dev.log info. Was that a bad idea?
