KB4343897 Update Corrupted Windows Subsystem For Linux

I have been using Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) for months, including yesterday, and today the only change I made to my Win 10 laptop was to install KB4343897. I was making sure the update was not causing problems (what else is new) and sure enough it looks like it corrupted WSL.

    See here:

Removing and Reinstalling the Ubuntu App fixed the problem. I only use WSL occasionally for some of the text manipulation, diff tools, etc. as I have full Linux Mint and Centos distros installed on my Thinkpad's second hard drive, never the less this was annoying.

    Thanks for sharing.

Do you use an Imaging tool to give yourself that extra layer of fallback? Great way to get around something that heads south.

Yes, but the image restore wasn't worth it in this case, as I made no changes to Ubuntu in the WSL and the reinstall of Ubuntu was quicker. I have Windows and Linux installed on separate drives, and I make Clonezilla image backups of those drives monthly at a minimum, and before any major updates. I also image backup my desktop drives, my Android phones and my websites located in a hosted server. If something is real important, I imagine backup with two different imaging software products, because I have had restores fail in the past. Between image backups I occasionally will do a regular backup if I could lose a lot of work.
Image backups have saved me on all those platforms at one time or another.
