    Having Issues With Automatic Windows Update

    Earlier in July I started having issues with Automatic Windows Updates and had to go to Manual for a time..

    The last 3 CU updates were manually installed by necessity.

    My current OS is WIN 10 PRO 64 bit v1803 Build 17134.191
    (as provided by the last CU WU KB4340917)

    I have been trying to systematically correct the Automatic Windows Update for the last few weeks with some success, but not at 100% yet. At least I can now Check For Updates without getting any errors.

    However, due to conflicts in Startup Type information from web resources on Window 10 Services I am requesting that someone with a desktop PC running a straight RTM WIN 10 64 bit v1803 Build 17134.191 machine with a correctly operating Automatic Windows Update to provide the Startup Type setting for the following four services, as viewed from their Services Properties.

    bits
    wuauserv
    appidsvc
    cryptsvc

    Thank you.

    Hi, I think you'll find following this would sort those out:

    Appreciate the reply.

    I found that source early on during my trouble shooting, and it helped, however I would still like the Startup Type for the four Services from someone.

    bits
    wuauserv
    appidsvc
    cryptsvc

    Thank you.

    On a mostly default, barely tweaked install, this is what I see in Services.msc
    BITS = Automatic
    Windows Update = Manual
    Application Identity = Manual
    Cryptographic Services = Automatic

    Ed,
    Thanks for reply.

    Current Startup Type for the 4 Services are;
    BITS is in "Manual"
    appidsvc is in Manual
    cryptsvc is in Automatic

    The Windows Update Service is somewhat different;
    As seen in the Services (Local) panel; wuauserv shows as Automatic (Trigger Start)
    But, the Properties for Windows Update wuauserv indicate just Automatic.
    There isn't an option for "Automatic (Trigger Start)".
    Only "Automatic" and "Automatic (Delayed Start)"

    My WU is currently checking for updates on a daily basis, I'm just waiting now for a CU to show up.

    I may have to change BITS to Automatic.
    But which? "Automatic" or "Automatic (Delayed Start)"?

    Thanks again.

    @adc:

    "Automatic (Delayed Start)" is the default setting for BITS service since Windows Vista and has not changed with any version of Windows 10

    The CU installed automatically today without a hiccup.

    Apparently I now have everything properly reset.

    Thanks for the interest and replies.

    Glad you got it sorted. I find myself running the WU troubleshooter fairly regularly. Only once in a while do I have to perform a complete Windows Update reset. Good thing Brink's got a tutorial for that! Reset Windows Update in Windows 10
