    Activate windows


    I bought a new hp laptop 5months ago now am getting notifications that windows license is about to expire, it is a volume license key and I don't know how to activate it...any help is highly welcomed.

    Well, VLKs are not for sale to public.

    Unscrupulous sellers often install it and it works for a while but eventually stops working.

    Where did you buy laptop?

    If laptop is HP, it will usually have a home embedded bios key unless a very old model.

    Welcome to the forums. If it's a volume key you have a pirated copy as it's only for corporate PC's and it has to be activated by a local Kms server it's not done via ms. We're did you buy it as you should contact them explain you have been sold a pirated copy and you want a genuine version or you will report them to ms

    I bought it from an online shop (Jumia). It an hp laptop and have tried using the slmgr commands to no avail

    I'm afraid you have been sold a PC with pirated copy of Windows. Your only way forwards is to clean install a legitimate copy of Windows. Back up all your user files first.

    If you are lucky and this PC was originally supplied with Windows 8/8.1 (or later) then it has a legitimate key embedded in the firmware. You can check that using....

    It will look liked this:
    OEM Key: C****-*****-******-******-****Q
    OEM Edition: Win 8.1 RTM Core OEM:DM
    RTM Core means the Home edition, if you're very lucky it may say RTM Pro instead. A clean install of Windows 10 will find this key and use it to activate.

    If you don't have a key in your bios, you'll have to buy a legitimate copy of Windows 10.
