    Error Code 0xc004F050

Hi. I bought a new HD as my old one was dying. Now I can't activate my windows, which I was able to do with the other HD. Does anyone know what's up?

    Thank you

btw this was bought on Ebay with an official key and it worked on my other HD.

Hi, at a guess, the 'official key' is a con.
it worked on my other HD.
I'm guessing 'it' here is your PC, rather than the key?

Once you have installed Win 10, you can freely reinstall Win 10, swap the disk and reinstall Win 10 as many times as you like. No key needed.

    Try:
    - testing the disk you have bought (is it really new?)
    - if ok, clean install Win 10.
(Tutorials available in the Tutorial section on how to download a Win 10 iso and perform a clean install).

If your new disk is ok, reformat it completely before installing Win 10.

How do you protect yourself from your scenario?
    1. Use a (free) program to monitor the state of your disk to hopefully give you early warning of failure.
    2. Use disk imaging routinely (compressed copies of Windows partitions on your disk and other partitions or disks as required, save on an external storage medium.

We repeatedly urge users to use disk imaging routinely e.g. Macrium Reflect (free).

When your PC becomes unusable or unbootable or even if you have to buy a new disk you can restore a previously created disk image and be up and running as you were, hopefully without technical help.

I don't understand what you mean about swapping the disk.

    Thanks for replying

    Thank you for your reply.

Take the old (broken) one out.

    Put a new one in.

I did. My hard drive was starting to fail so I bought a new HD and installed it yesterday. I installed windows and you know the rest. It won't take the same activation key it accepted with a different hard drive. So weird. So if worse comes to worse so do you know how much for a new key number from them?

Hi, normally when clean installing Windows there is no need to input any key. Activation should be automatic. Disks can be replaced without difficulty. You have (had?) a valid digital license on MS's activation servers, so should not need to buy another, unless you wished to upgrade from Home to Pro, say.

    For reference:
Clean Install Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

It's possible that trying to use a different key has caused problems.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about activation to guide you further- there are others here who do.
    See:

Did you reinstall the same Edition as before. If it was Home and you installed Pro, it won't activate with the Home key. And vice versa.
What message are you getting when it fails activation?

I went to activate it again to get you the messages. Embarrassed to say that it activated. Perhaps I entered wrong numbers or letters (every time??).

Thank you for your reply. :)
