I just want to get back on track with Cumulative Updates

Help! I have Win10 Pro all the way up to 1803 (that's Spring Creators update, right?). Then the June 2018 Cumulative (KB4284835) failed to install and so did the July (KB4338819). I have read many tales about how one might fix this. Finally landed here.
Created a USB with 1803 from another computer to use on my desktop system. This system was built from scratch 2 years ago and has never known any OS besides Win 10. When I run the USB to repair, it checked for updates, downloaded something and then I get this:
I just want to get back on track with Cumulative Updates-win10-no-go.png
As suggested, I tried again, with same result.
I also note that my update history seems to have been cleared in the last few days. I no longer see the failures to install KB4284835. I do have KB4343669, apparently a July "Servicing Stack" update, whatever that is.

I just want to get back on track with Cumulative Updates! I don't want to do a clean install, I have too many applications installed.

Does anyone have ideas for me? Thank you.

To get the Offline installers of updates I open Settings, Update and Security. On the right I scroll down to Learn more. There I can choose what I want.

Created a USB with 1803 from another computer to use on my desktop system.
    - depends what that is and how it was created. And then what it is you're trying to do with it.

To be relevant to your current system it has to be the same (or later) build, x32 or x64 as appropriate, and the same base language as your installed OS. Were you trying to do an in-place upgrade install? (Boot normally, run setup.exe from your disk?)

Anyway, I suggest you set that aside and consider your current system.

    Noting
I also note that my update history seems to have been cleared in the last few days.
That typically happens after any major upgrade.

Please do the following basic checks.

    1. First check your disk:
Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial)
Post a screenshot of its GUI using the Insert Image icon above your post.
If all disks are reported as good, continue.

    2. Now check your file system:
From an admin command or powershell prompt
[Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
Your PC will need to restart.
Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:

    or
How to read Event Viewer log for Chkdsk in Windows 10 [Tip] | dotTech
    or
How do I see the results of a CHKDSK that ran on boot? - Ask Leo!
Make sure the result is clear or fixed- else do not proceed.

    3. Check your system files:
From an admin command prompt run
    SFC /SCANNOW
    and report the result.

Then please run the Windows Update Troubleshooter and post the result.

I don't want to do a clean install, I have too many applications installed.
This is an understandable and common fear.

We constantly urge users to protect themselves in many circumstances from having to do a clean install by routinely using disk imaging. You can use a disk image to restore Windows or any image disk(s) or partition(s) to a previous working state- even if the disk fails and you need a new one.

Eg. Macrium Reflect (free) + external storage for disk image sets.

    Considering your error message:
This could occur if Windows is having difficulty identifying the active partition:
I finally managed to fix it, it appears the error was down to Windows 10 not being able to calculate the free drive space due to a different partition being tagged as the 'system active" drive.
and perhaps if you have a dual boot configuration:

Just wanted to note that this was not supposed to be a new thread, rather I was replying to this giant thread: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Page 76 - | Windows 10 Tutorials
I don't know how it became a new thread, perhaps when I clicked "Advanced" in order to insert screenshot?

A week ago I did chkdsk and it was fine. I have done sfc /scannow a few times. First time it found and corrected errors - that was a week ago. Since then, no errors.

Yes, I was running setup.exe from the USB, in order to do a system repair. Awfully strange that it could not determine if my system cold support Windows 10!

I will shortly provide disk partitions and stuff. Thanks.

Windows Update Troubleshooter. Kind of a stupid troubleshooter. It tells me there's a pending update, asks if I want to install now. No, I do not, it's the same thing over and over: install, then tell me it failed, then rollback, then reboot, then rollback AGAIN, then boot up OK, then shortly thereafter I have a new update (actually same old) waiting for me.
Also tells me there may be some update database problem, but I've been there multiple times, this is where I stop BITS and WU services and then delete contents of SoftwareDistribution directory. Is that right?
