Latest Update Has Ruined My Recording Abilities

    Hello,

I use my PC mostly for recording music but the latest Windows update has interfered with my USB analog to digital device (Focusrite Scarelett 2i2 1st gen)

Since the update my PC still recognizes the 2i2 but recording programs like Audacity and Acoustica now say things like "An Error Occurred While Recording" when I hit record.
I've reinstalled all programs and the 2i2 drivers with no success.

I know this is from the Update since I was recording successfully just before the update and has happened on another PC.
I contacted Focusrite yesterday but I haven't received a reply yet.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Brian

Hi, unfortunately I have no idea what
    the latest Windows update
is- some people run older builds of Windows, some Insider builds; not everyone receives the same update at the same time.

    So...
    - what is your Windows build? (Windows key + R, winver)
    - please post a screenshot of your Update History (in Settings) use the Insert Image icon above your post

Assuming that the update in question is an update, rather than a build upgrade, you can try uninstalling the update to see if that lets your device work again.

If so, you will need to hide (block) that update to stop it being reapplied.

Hi, ok, so you've just updated to the most current build. There should be another update:
    Cumulative Update KB4345421 Windows 10 v1803 Build 17134.167 - July 16 - Windows 10 Forums

(The News section carries a thread per update per build- with download links). Just wait for it via Windows Update.

In all probability you will need to wait for the device manufacturer to update the driver for compatibility, assuming you have the latest driver. Best wait for the reply.

Otherwise, you might have some luck using compatibility mode, but no guarantees.

Always worth checking you have the latest driver.

One change introduced in the latest Windows 10 (1803) is that controlled folder access seems to be turned on by default (it was off by default before).

Controlled folder access provides ransomware protection by blocking unknown apps from modifying or saving to protected folders. You may need to allow your recording console access through controlled folder access to get it to work again. See this tutorial...

I just installed the latest and still no go.

About the Scarlett driver update...could this be the problem when my PC recognizes the device?
The problem is when I try to use it with DAW's like Audacity.
And Is compatibility mode an option in start up?

    Again, thanks for replying.

    .
As a test, try turning off Controlled Folder Access temporarily.

If it then works it's not the driver causing the problem. Turn it back on and allow access for the apps being blocked.

I wasn't suggesting the Windows Updates would be likely to fix the problem - I suppose there was an outside possibility- merely pointing out where you were as regards your build level.

    Yes, I know, dalchina.
All of this is a bit over my head so any suggestion is much appreciated.

I'm back from lunch now and I'm gonna try Bree's suggestion.
