    Activation error

    First off, hello

and sorry if this has already been posted. I've been looking around and probably just missed a solution.

I have a desktop that had win 7. I was not going to install 10 for awhile. However when I woke up this morning my wife said "Hey I clicked, install windows 10"...My eyes about popped out of my head

Anyway I had already installed w10 on her laptop to see how it went. From the laptop I downloaded the 10 iso and made a disk.

On the desktop with w10 installed, it said it was activated so I figured since its here ill see how it goes and did a fresh install with the disk I had made on the laptop (do you need a separate iso disk for each device?)

Now that the clean install is done on the desktop, I'm getting Error code: 0xC004C003 in records to activating.

    Thanks for any help
    Chad

That error indicates the key is blocked from activation. Did you enter a key during the installation at all?

Did the Laptop and the Desktop have the same version of windows, home, pro or ultimate?

What version did you download on the laptop?

    Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums

Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer or Media Creation Tool on an activated Windows 7 or 8.1 PC, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need a product key for re-activations on the same hardware. If you make a meaningful change to your hardware, you may need to contact customer support to help with activation. You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded.

You do not get a product key with the free upgrade of Windows 10.

The activation for the free offer of Windows 10 is registered on the Microsoft activation servers, and is referenced by the hardware (motherboard/CPU/graphics card serial numbers) of the PC it was upgraded on.

Hmmm...does that mean I need to re-install 7 and start over making a w 10 iso disk after I install 10 and its activated?

    Hi there,

I had the same problem. I spent a couple of hours with MS tech support this morn and they have told me that the activation platform is down. I asked when would it be up or how can I check, and they said maybe in forums otherwise, once its up it should auto activate (or activation will be pushed).

This was after another two hours last night with them. They suggested yesterday that I do a complete refresh which I did but it then tied me to Win 10, cos once you do a complete refresh (ie delete all files), it does not permit for you to roll back.

They suggested that I re-install win 8.1, but my 8.1 was upgraded from XP -> Vista -> 7 -> 8 -> 8.1 so I'm not going through all that again.

Hello, i installed windows 10 with a generic key, which you can find in this forum or on some sites. I chose windows 10 pro and now i have to activate windows, but it doesn't work! Is it possible to activate windows 10 with one of the generic keys. Before that all I had a normal key from windows 8, but i wanted to install 10 as fast as i could and i used a generic key for it. ( i don't know why i didn't use my original w 8 key. I am a really noob.) Can i find anywhere my original key, because i don't have the things where it stands on and the keyfinder shows me only the generic key. I only have the product-ID but can help me this to get my original key back?

A clean install may change the computer name.

If you have not used a microsoft account, then I don't know what you can check. If you have, check the computer name in control panel>system and https://account.microsoft.com/devices.

If it is different then your installation is not being recognized as a valid install, and perhaps a phonecall to MS is in order. It has the wrong details on the activation server, and possibly, therefore, the blocked key.
