Fitzy.... this is a quick one, and won't cost you anything but a minute or 2.

Right click Desktop, View, un-check "Show Desktop Icons". Should all go away.

    Sign off.

Sign on. Let machine settle a bit.

Right click Desktop, View, check "Show Desktop Icons".

    What happens?

So this is localized to your userid, so a setting, a sync or corruption.

Your original screen shots sort of look like Windows Snap.

On your regular account could you go

Start > Settings > System > Multitasking and disable Snap. I would then restart system and see results.

Here is what mine looks like after I disable Snap.

No change I’m affraid Ken, what I’ve done to over come it is to create a new user (administrator) and transfer all my documents over to the new user, once I’m sure it’s all been transferred over (I’m also saving everything to an external hdd) I’ll delete that user account.

By the way, the new user accounts desktop icons are all the correct size as before the update. Strange.....

Well Glad you found something that worked Fitzy, after you get everything transferred over to your new account, you should make a complete image backup using Macrium Reflect, and do NOT use Windows restore. There is a tutorial on how to make your backup using MR that you should read. This will save you a lot of time if anything happens again.

I will add to make sure you turn off system restore totally before you start using Macrium (or any other imaging program).

Enable or Disable System Restore in Windows | Windows 10 Tutorials

After my last Windows 10 install, System Restore, which I never use, was active and each time I made an image with Macrium, System Restore decided to make a backup of its own. It was taking up a lot of space and only increased after each image.

    Hope this can help.

Well I'm glad the new user id gave you a work around.

If you haven't deleted the old users can I ask are you using any customs Themes? You had mentioned Star Trek.

If so I might try setting to a Windows standard theme.

I'm not certain if this pertains to your problem.

Windows Desktops are controlled by the Windows OS, a video adapter with driver ( usually with it's own bios and software), and a monitor some of which have their own bios settings and Windows drivers and software.

So you basically besides the Windows OS you have drivers and bioses controlling and/or effecting your Desktop and other windows displays.

For my system I sometimes need to configure all three to get things working as before.

e.g. After setting Windows video resolution and zoom percentage, I then sometimes needed to use the video cards software and bios to set the horizontal and vertical to match windows resolution 1920 x 1080 (sometimes the resolution becomes changed as well as the desktop zoo, which can make a difference with font size, etc.)

I also sometimes needed to go into the monitors bios and change certain setting to get my desktop back to normal again. All three have a certain amount of control of how you desktop is displayed.

The Samsung Curved monitor appears to have it's own PC software to install I suppose which controls the monitors bios and perhaps monitor drivers. If you monitor doesn't have it's own Windows drivers Windows OS will install a generic monitor driver or a generic plug and play monitor driver.

Anyway besides the Windows OS display settings you also may want to take a look at your video adapter and monitor bios and software settings. Re installation of your video adapter drivers won't necessarily setup and configure your video adapter to run correctly with Windows OS and monitor settings.

My NEC V323-2 1080 1920 monitor has lots of settings controlled by an OSD menu I found some effected certain attributes and behavior of the Windows 10 desktop display settings as well as the video adapter driver & bios settings.

I found if really out of wack and started over, gradually working up from default settings I could get Windows 10 to display the desktop and other Windows displays, fonts, etc. as before or as wanted.
