KB4338819 Update ~ COM Surrogate and DllHost.exe Errors

Tuesday's update downloaded and installed quickly and without error until it made it to the desktop. Following painting the desktop it displayed a screen with "Windows Encountered an Error And Needs To Restart". It did and loaded normally. Update History says it was a Successful Update.

Anyway checking Reliability Monitor since then I'm getting this, a lot:

Most all the COM Surrogate errors involve the DllHost.exe but with varying faulting addresses and times:

I can trigger the errors every time I run the Reliability Monitor. But then they also occur randomly at other times.

Can anyone help me here? Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks ...

I don't know enough about what I'm doing here to have a clue.

If you believe this is directly related to update try backing the update out. I do this disconnected from net so you can test.

If you go this route I would have an Image in tool case so you can restore should Windows decide to be Windows.

    You could use SFC /scannow

May need to run three times to clear errors.

Try disabling any third party AV's to see if it / they are contributing.

See you are 1803. Maybe a simple inplace repair will correct. I recommend have a full data backup.

Thanks for the help. Appreciate you. Did a successful Un-Install. Still have the errors. Guess next is muster my courage and try the Install with In-Place Upgrade. May put that off a day or so, I'm not really up to such activities today. Still enjoying the side/after effects of Chemo Therapy.

    I will keep you posted.

    Edit:

Have a laugh on me, I am. Connected back to the internet and posted the above. Wandered off to the kitchen for a cold water and to start warming up leftovers for supper. Not gone 10 minutes at the most! came in and thought crossed my mind "how long before WU would run that update on me again?" Opened up the Update and it had already downloaded and installed and had the Restart button up. SO, why not, and it restarted, finished, loaded the desktop, and all with NO errors this time. Still have the COM Surrogate errors and have something new now in Control Panel, Sync Center:

I'm just going to live with this and see if the next update fixes it. In all honesty, the Repair Install Windows 10 In-Place Upgrade is above my pay grade. Well written as it is, I'm just not up to it now.

I got lucky. Whatever the July CU broke, the August Update has apparently fixed. Haven't had an incident since 08/14/2018. This one's solved. Thanks for your efforts @Caledon Ken .

Yes this last set of updates actually fixed things.
