    Ridiculous time updating

Arrrggghhh! I'm afraid that's about it for me and W10. I have watched in pain the updates/upgrades over the W10's life and I'm just plain fed up with it. The current update has now been going on for five hours and has gone back to "Preparing to install 8%" where it has been there before; I give up. Back to my Linux Mint where boot takes 12 seconds and updates complete in a reasonable time. Solong W10.

What's in that computer of yours ? I mean parts like processor, RAM and disks. Also which updates are you talking about, semi annual or ordinary KB updates ? On my main computer, large updates for Insider ring take about 1 hour, secondary about 1.5 hours (both with SSDs) but another dual core with a slow HDD twice that.
Those Insider and large, semi annual updates actually replace whole system but before that they have to save all your programs and data files and than replace them again after the update. Needles to say, slow HDDs are main bottleneck for that process.

You can not compare Linux to Windows.

    Linux: a problem > reported > fixed.

Windows: a problem > reported < Microsoft: it is user's fault not ours, dealt with it.

Microsoft's philosophy: Buy the new computer for 10, the more expensive the better.
It does not matter, that any Linux or Windows XP/Vista/7/8 work just fine on the old one.

I install updates manually on HDD, it takes 2-3 mins to install, 2-3 mins to restart and done. Windows update service is highly unreliable and it messes up easily by leftover files or by an interrupted download.

Well, Linux is not exactly perfect either. I just updated my Mint from 18.3 to 19.0 and by all the changes I think I'll have to go back. Some drivers like for GPU ad M.2 SSD are not available and will not be available, that makes it actually slower. It also took ages to update from 18 to 19 to be developed and looks like a flop.
Linux, almost any Linux and distro are much smaller and simpler systems and that greatly reduces it's use. Mint is one of most serious distros and still can't get close to Windows usability, I doubt that it ever will.
At friends request I just yesterday downloaded and installed EndlessOS Linux, it's simpler version was 1.8GB and full version with all the APPs available 19.5GB !!!! It's a joke, even small kids would reject.

Yes, Linux (I would never use it) has its share of problems, but maintenance is not one of them. One would think, that Windows with its 98% share would bring updating to the perfection, but it is only getting worse.

Well, W10 update size was shaved by 1GB since the beginning but it's also very complicated system and with many programs and files that have to be saved and restored it can take some time on slower HW. Same build would clean install in a fraction of update time. I can clean install on this system in less than 10 minutes from a USB2 stick, probably less than 5 if from an SSD and USB3.1. Installing Mint on a slow 2.5" HDD took almost an hour and on slower SSD over 30 minutes and that's counting answering many questions during installation. Mint .ISO is 1.9 GB comparing to 4GB of W10.
