    Update freezes at99%

I have an AcerAspire notebook which was originally Windows 7.It is now Windows 10 version 1709 OS build 16299.522.I have tried 4 times to update with the Windows Update Assistant but each time it froze at 99%.
I ran the troubleshooter and it finished with the message"Potential Windows Update database error detected
not fixed".When I click on Windows update in settings it tells me your machine is up to date checked today.Does this mean that 1709 is the furthest I can go with updates on this particular notebook?

    Windows 10 Pro x64 Build 1803

    Hi Terrysutt.

I have machines built for Vista on 1803 but anything is possible, maybe a device driver. In that case I would think you would see a message like Upgrade unsuccessful, restoring previous version or similar wording.

I would run the Windows Update reset.

Reset Windows Update in Windows 10

Then using the Media Creation tool create yourself a USB thumb drive. This will install V1803 on USB.

Then run the inplace / upgrade tutorial. Basically plug in USB, navigate to it and run "Setup" however you should read the tutorial.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

I would recommend that you make a backup of your personal data although this process is supposed to be non-destructive.

Since you've been having issues I would also use a tool like Macrium Reflect to create a current Image just in case it goes horribly wrong. (Not likely but better to have and not need than .... )

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect
