What Times WU To Auto Check For Updates?

KB4457128 issues are on my 32 bit and 64 bit PCs as well. All Internet solutions to date fail to resolve the issue. This cat keeps coming back with "We couldn't complete the updates - Undoing changes". Windows update history may show a successful update but the update repeats. It is if the update is going in OK as filename.wu but the update mechanism is looking for filenome.wu so it can't find the update and it starts again. It isn't a corrupted Catroot2 or SoftwareDistribution folder.

Very frustrating at 420 MB a download. Microcephalic or Microsyphilitic Update we have a choice then! I guess we wait until 10th October and a new Feature update to solve this diseased software.

Yes, I'm resurrecting an old thread, but the subject is the same, so I thought it best not to start a new discussion. Anyway, ever since KB4471324 (a CU for W10) was installed on 12/12/18, WU has ceased to do a daily auto check for updates. It is now doing that auto check roughly every 48 hours. Not sure why, as the computer usage has not changed. It gets booted up in the early morning, runs all day, and gets shut down in the late evening.

I keep the computers on Paused and Semi-Annual Channel (not targeted). Peaceful that way.

Windows 10 October 1803 was as predicted. Give your nerves a rest occasionally.

SFE: Yeah, it'd be nice to be able to pause updates, but you can't do that with a Home Edition.

That's a bit of a blight.

You are using Windows 10 in a 64 bit version of 1803 OK. So you aren't restricted by having to use a 32 bit version for W10 Pro as I was on one of my old Dells.

Time to get an installation CD for Windows 7 Pro 64 bit from the Internet. I have a Dell Reinstallation DVD Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit with product key delivered and installed on 5 August 2016 for £20.50

Restricted? In what way? Provided it met the minimum spec for x64 Windows 10 it's just two steps to go from your x86 Windows 7 to x64 Windows 10.

1. Upgrade to 32-bit W10 and make sure it is activated. This means you will have a digital licence for the PC.
2. Clean install 64-bit W10, it will activate because a digital licence is valid for both x86 and x64 versions.

The only thing that could restrict you to x86 is if you had less than 2GB RAM. But that was the minimum spec for W7 too. If you could install x64 W7 that would not seem to be the case here.

Or availability of drivers. I have to run x64 on one laptop as no 32bit drivers exist. It has 3GB RAM but boots fine with 1GB so it seems the 2GB limit is for installing only, not for running.

The bitness of your EFI can also limit you as if your EFI is 32bit you can only call 32bit Windows loader and v.v. (unless you chainload by putting another boot loader in the middle).
