What Times WU To Auto Check For Updates?

Oh Crap! I am the most hamfisted idiot on the planet! I was checking WU and accidentally clicked the "Check for Updates" box instead of the "View Update History" box. Yep, the download started instantly. Now I'll have to wait until the next update issue. At least I have the history enabled for the task scheduler so I can see what happens now. And I now know what triggers the WU update check.

And no, it's not a metered connection. It's a 57 Mbps cable internet link.

Well, the task scheduler worked like it's supposed to for the 07/10/18 patch Tuesday updates. The Windows Update task is scheduled to kick off at 8:00PM and it actually ran at 8:54PM. All of the requisite updates were downloaded and were waiting for a restart. I did the restart manually, rather than wait for the defined idle period. Interesting to note that WU ran at 3:05PM today and found nothing to update. Stating that the system was up to date (according to the Settings page). Go figure.

Something is amiss again. WU checks every day after 8:00 PM and finds nothing to update even though there have been two cumulative updates since 07/10/18 (blds. 17134.167 & 17134.191). I ran a system image backup last night and will wait one more night (Fridays are virus scan nights) and then I'll do a check for updates from the Settings page.

Sorry long thread... are you on Pro and are you deferring any updates?

Home, as stated in the system specs. No deferred updates.

Was doubting it was NIS. It's been running on the system for years with no issues. It was running when the 07/10/18 update ran automatically. Of course something could have changed as NIS updates automatically all the time. I will run "check for updates" from the Settings panel tonight with NIS active and see what happens.
