We have to remember why the licencing system has changed,
It is not due to the users discussing this issue here, who all run fully licenced systems,
The old Key based licence is fatally flawed due to those who consider that they should use software without paying for it - Is the new system complex, yes, could it be less so, No not if it is expected to stop the industry that exists just to pirate software. This is a major reason for the high price of software and the complexity of security systems
I come from industry where the largest system I was involved with was in the order of 7000 licences across multiple sites, most of these were VL licences so controlled by the Licencing server, but Mobile devices had actual keys assigned, manually and this had to be fully documented with each device given a name and this recorded, (and all internal and external hardware allocated and cases indelibly marked physically and electronically )
I am not suggesting that this level is needed for a small company, (up to a hundred users ) or a large family setup, but the basics of allocating names to devices, That you and others will remember easily is a simple thing that adds controls the overall system, On my home systems every device has a name that identifies it and is also used for it's Network ID, and is recorded, documented, and backed up which means that this small bit of "Work" on first activation of a device means that any issues that arise the relevant documentation can be used to deal with any outside agency that needs to be contacted
Overkill, perhaps but the outlay of resources against the potential return is well worth it
