    KB4284835 FAILS - 0x8e5e0147

For the first time ever I am having issues with Windows 10 Update. The recent cumulative update KB284835 fails to install with the error code 0x8e5e0147. I have never had a history of windows 10 update issues, this is the first to cause a problem. I have tried the following methods to fix:

    1. Run the Windows 10 fixit program for Windows 10 Updates.
    2. Tried a recommended .bat program to reset Windows 10 Updates (this failed, as it was unable to stop certain services).
    3. SFC /SCANNOW which did not return any issues.

This is the first update for me to fail. The update worked on a laptop I own.

    Any thoughts?

You simply were lucky if this is the first time an update fails. There's always the first time.
The problem is that some failed updates prevent future updates to install. Sometimes a failed update will successfully install at a later time. Sometimes problematic updates are replaced by Microsoft with newer updates. And sometimes nothing works.
When I found my self in this situation, I did a reinstallation of windows 10 ( and during the process I chose to KEEP DATA AND APPS.
This was the only method that fixed my update problems, at least for a while. You just have to be patient with it, because it could take a few hours.
