How to stop Windows from trying to download updates

    Hi

I have new PC running W10 Home and I have installed and activated Office XP on it.

Windows Update is trying to install updates for Office XP but they will
not download and a "TRY AGAIN" link comes up up when I click on it
Windows tries for a few seconds then the message comes back.

How do I stop Windows from trying to download them?

There are a lot of updates pending but these ones are preventing
    progress.

    Any help or advice appreciated

    Cheers

    Daniel

Try turning off updates for other Microsoft products.

You can select to also receive updates for other Microsoft products like Office in Windows Update.

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows on your Windows 10 PC.

You could try this Microsoft tool that can hide individual updates. It can hide any Windows update, but I'm not sure if that includes Office updates.

Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

For an Office XP update that fails to install through windows update, you could try downloading the standalone version of the update from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

you can also download and install Windows Update blocker and install it and run and select hide updates and select those updates to be blocked.

But as mentioned here, if you turn off the install other Microsoft product updates, that should stop Office updates installing.

You can probably manually download and install Office XP updates and service packs and other security updates.
You also might have to right click on the setup.exe installer files and install them in compatibility mode for XP.

This link will show you how to install older programs properly in compatibility mode.

Here is a link for SP2. You can search web and find other updates and service packs if there is any. Be cautious where you download from.
