KB3125574 or the SP 2 for Windows 7 where is the KB article?

There exist no such thing as Windows 7 SP2. It's just a collection of all updates since SP1 that users has packaged into one file.

Wrong - it was packaged by Microsoft as a rollup of all the significant patches since SP1 and up to April 2016 when Windows 7 adopted the Monthly Rollup format (that's like a Windows 10 cumulative update). It is an 'SP2' in all but name.

@camelia, it is the component parts of Windows Update. You need to update Windows Update first before you can install the Convenience Update. You can download the service stack from links in its KB article.

As I said...there exist no such thing as a Win7 SP2. An SP is a bit more complicated than just a collection of patches put into one file.

Anyways, that rollup package is the official one and should be used instead of the ones circling around the internet as SP2.

I've not found it necessary to run that script, or any of the other fixes for known issues. I Factory Reset a laptop back to it's OEM Windows 7 that pre-dated SP1. Then installed SP1, the servicing stack, and then the Convenience Rollup. After that I checked for updates and got the latest Monthly Rollup.

If you do need to run it, then the instructions in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...server-2008-r2 say back up the registry key first, then run the script...

• Immediately before installing the Convenience Rollup.
• Immediately after installing the Convenience Rollup but before restarting the following update installation.
• After installing Convenience Rollup 3125574 and after restarting even though the computer is in a problem state. In this situation, another restart will be required after the script is run.

Yes. Once you have installed the Convenience Update successfully (and done a restart), then a check for updates will find the latest Monthly Rollup that includes all subsequent fixes released after the Convenience Rollup.

Windows 7 and 8.1 have now adopted the same 'cumulative update' method as was introduced in Windows 10, they just call it a Monthly Rollup instead. This blog introduced the new format.
