Since updates are cumulative only the latest matters. That they all fail and that you are on an old build suggests there's something amiss.

Well I have done some things to defer feature upgrades but I never have deferred quality updates! The version is purposely manipulated so I don't get features before I want them and usually I don't want them thus my old build number. I've set feature upgrades to defer for 365 days, I've set so WU doesn't check for drivers, but defer quality updates and pause quality updates have remained unaltered. I'm aware of AUOptions and UXOptions in the registry and I have made changes to both instead of using local policy editor. But this problem came along long after I'd made those settings...I used to get fast and regular updates but not anymore! I also thought I'd mention that I have a 128 Gb SSD drive for my windows and a 1Tb HDD for data.

I also forgot to mention that yesterday it successfully downloaded and installed KB4023057 between failures of KB4103722

I use a script created by the author of the program you used to reset WU but have not used that particular program. When running script I make sure that Windows Update Service is stopped before repairs begin. Also I run the script three times - first time in safe mode then reboot. run it again with no internet connection them reboot and run it again with internet connection. Reboot again. Wait 5 minutes then reconfigure WU settings via settings panel. run an update check. Script needs to be launched with admin rights.

Also for failed cumulative update download manually :

Download and Install Windows Update from Microsoft Update Catalog | Windows 10 Tutorials

In the tutorial ignore instruction for installing the update. Disconnect from internet and reboot.

Open Administrator Powershell Prompt and use this command:

    wusa.exe "C:\Users\Chris\Desktop\WU\windows10.0-kb4077528-x86_f3958973d72b4793a3269210ccc38b0c1f31c80a.msu"

replace "C:\Users\Chris\Desktop\WU\windows10.0-kb4077528-x86_f3958973d72b4793a3269210ccc38b0c1f31c80a.msu" with the full path to thedownloaded file on your computer.

Do we even have an idea as to what anomaly is creating this problem? I understand how a computer can be a drag to diagnose but I sure would like to know what caused this in the first know what mean?

I'm having the same problems. Here's a screenshot of my W10 updates, showing various ones not installed. Updates have been automatically installed with no trouble whatsoever for years, so I don't know what could be causing this log jam. I've tried manually installing by downloading the updates files, restarted as requested umpteen times, nothing changes.

I saw above a link to the MS 'W10 Update Assistant' and downloaded it. I haven't launched it yet because it confirms I'm running 1709 and 1803 is the latest and I'm afraid clicking 'Update Now' might put me in a world of problems! Am I too cautious? Will it be ok? Can I roll back? This desktop is also my home recording studio PC so I really can do without disasters!

BTW, how do I get into 'elevated mode' to run the suggested scans? As far as I'm aware I've always been the Administrator on this PC so don't understand why the DOS scan commands think I'm not.

I've gone to using a 3rd party update blocker to use until I can figure this one out!
