    OMG - not more update tribulations re 1803

    Desktop disappeared on client PC. no recovery/restore functions worked - re-install the only option.

    Read the report on The Register and see that this is a huge problem on 1803.

    Really it is about time that MS went back to the drawing board on updates - just isn't working. Updates is the biggest deterrent to using win 10.

    More and more folks reverting to 7.

    Why didn`t you create a Disk Image with Macrium before updating ?

    I had no issues at all when I tested 1803 on my Z170 using the 1803 Iso file.

    If you re-read my post , you will see it was a client machine.

    Windows Update in Win10 is designed by MS for uneducated retail users, who probably don't have yr experience. You really can't expect every non-techy user to do as you suggest, nor should MS. The whole concept of Updates in Win10 is unacceptable.

    I had problems with this up date - 'black screen' and had to press F11 to get to get system restore.

    I see it has downloaded again but this time I'm being asked to install it rather than it doing it automatically. I was going to ask if MS have sorted it out, as obviously I am very reluctant to install it if it will give me problems again.

    I guess from reading the above it's still hit and miss for a good install then.

    EXACTLY!

    The OS is used by ordinary consumers/ end users that shouldn't be expected to have the ability to do such things even though to folks like us and power users we might not give it a second though to back up and make an image in case of such situation. Even so you never saw the answer to most problems with Windows 7 being
    install a new copy of the OS. That just isn't acceptable at all for the consumer user base Windows 10 has. I NEVER remember Windows 7 having such regular disasters, but then again that's because you weren't constantly loading a new OS through Windows update.

    MS needs to fire the CEO , Satya Nadella, and his fellow executive officers, and take control and ownership of the disaster that now is Windows 10. I'd say the situation with regards to the user base and end consumers are in critical mode, and soon MS will drive most of their existing customers away from the product if something drastic isn't done very soon. All major feature upgrades should be suspended until further notice.

    @robmar0se

    what kind of "client" machine was it? (meaning name & model of computer)

    yup, the two feature updates a year policy by Microsoft is so utterly ridiculous

    I always defer feature updates by at least 6 months to give MS time to sort out their dodgy software engineering. I also image using Reflect in case of problems.
