If your Windows 7 is genuine and licenced, and you use the install media to upgrade it to 10 it seems that it still gets activated and given a digital licence for Windows 10. I have seen successful activation after an upgrade reported as recently as last week.

If your Windows 7 has not been updated for a long time, I would make sure it has the latest updates before trying to upgrade it to 10.

Once you have upgraded your Windows 7 to Windows 10 and it has activated you can, if you wish, do a clean install of Windows 10 without using a key. It will activate automatically from the digital licence as soon as it can contact the activation servers.

hi there, I don't want to do all latest windows 7 upgrades, so if I use win 10 Disc for clean installation, there after win 10 activated or not.

because I am not doing any latest upgrade to windows 7, just I want to use directly win 10 Disc,

please let me know, is this work or not.

    Thanks

How long ago was the last update for Win7? Was it even updated to SP1?

Windows 7 SP1 is the minimum requirement for the upgrade to be possible. The more recent updates for 7 have improved the reliability of the upgrade process. The older your updates, the more chance the upgrade may fail.

How old is the Windows 10 disk? What version is it for? To activate Windows 10 after upgrading from Windows 7 you have to have internet connection. Windows 10 will not activate until it can contact Microsoft's activation servers. Any version of 10 up to and including 1703 will start automatically upgrading itself to the latest version once it is on the internet. Only in 1709 Pro would you have a chance to defer this.

What is your problem with updates? Windows 10 is designed to be updated regularly. Have you really thought this through?

I did not updates my win 7 for a long time (and I have Genune Win 7 Home on my PC), but I have win 7 sp1 on it, because this win 7 sp1 Home edition install from Disc, so there after Win 7 not updated at all from the beginning.

so I like to know with out doing Updates to win 7, can I install win 10 Home from my Disc. Because I have Win 10 one year old Disc,

or do I have to mandatory Update 1st my Win 7 then I have to I have to install win 10 from Disc,

    Please let me know.

    Thanks

    Hi,

If I were you, I'd follow this:
Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First | Windows 10 Tutorials
Your Win 7 must have at least SP1 installed and there is no need to update it (if you follow above link).

And YES, Windows upgrade activation is still free and works fine.

Of course, you must install the same edition (Home, for you) and I'd suggest to let Microsoft Media Creation Tool create an installation media (USB, DVD) for you, instead of using your Win 10 disc.

A clean install by the method werby suggests should work and get activated. First make sure you have a way back though, in case of problems. Either make a system image of the Windows 7 before wiping it for the clean install, or swap out the hard drive for a new one and clean install on that.

I prefer to upgrade the existing Windows 7, the advantage is that if the upgrade fails it usually rolls back to your original Windows 7, so you should still have a working system. A system image will give you a way back if you choose the clean install. Macrium Reflect (free) is frequently recommended on these boards.

A one year old Windows 10 disk will be for version 1703 (Creators Update) at the latest, more likely 1607 (Anniversary Update). Both will try to update to the latest 1803 version as soon as they are on the internet - and you need to connect to the internet to get activated.

Instead of using an old disk, I would make the latest install media for 1803 and use that. Here's how...
