Stop Windows 10 upgrades

I am running Windows 10, version 1709 and received a update to 1803 and I installed it - big mistake, it killed apps and other things that I want so I rolled back to 1709; the next thing I see is an update to 1803. How to I put a stop to an accidental install of any further upgrades?

I created this registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate"
Created Double Word "DisableOSUpgrade" and set it to "1". When I rebooted, the update was gone - is this adequate to put a stop to Microsoft?

I don't know. I have the same issue - My machine would freeze with 1803 so I rolled backed back to 1709 and when it booted up it started to update to 1803 AGAIN. I went in and set my Wi-Fi and Ethernet to metered and at first I disabled Windows Update Service. I don't want to do that but it was the only thing I can do since I have Windows Home version. Last weekend I decided to turn on the WU service and I got a 1709 update. Then on Monday the 1803 update returned - all I could think to do to stop it was to hit the off button to turn the machine off as shutdown was not available. I rebooted and then disabled WU service. That's where I sit now at 1709. I keep reading 1803 horror stories so am very afraid to turn on the update service. I know my machine is at risk because I've disabled WU service but at this point the risk is greater to update to 1803 - I hope to hear an all clear soon.

The registry entry that I made definitely stopped 1803 from showing up, but what I am looking for is any other method for additional insurance.

Microsoft can't leave well enough along, they have to keep making things worse - they haven't made a OS since XP, everyone after has been trash. I suppose that 1709 will be the last OS that I will ever have on a PC.

I just upgraded to 1803 and I'm tremoring with dread. Newly added is a Windows Update Medic Service. It cannot be configured. It will run when it is triggered. My guess on what it does is that it will detect that Windows Update is disabled and it will un-disable the Service. If this happens after a reboot, I can cope. If this happens any other time, I will likely return to 1709 and explore Linux distros.

Just let it finish, then afterwards you'd have the option to revert to the earlier version.

You do realise that if it hasn't finished by now, a year and a half after the post you replied to, then it's never going to?
