    Unable to install update

I'm unable to install the KB4103721 update on windows 10. I cant shutdown the computer normally, it keeps saying update and shutdown/restart no matter how many times I do it.

    Thins I've already tired:
    • Update and shutdown
    • Update and restart
    • deleted the update from windows/softwaredistribution
    • tried to restore system to before I tried to install it.

Open Command Prompt as an administrator.

    Copy/Paste this:
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase
    and run that command.

After it completes, restart the computer and try the update again.

Same problem here, unfortunately, that didn't work for me. I'm in this situation for more than a month now. I was hoping that a new update would fix the issue but no luck so far. Windows keeps asking me to restart in order to finish updating but nothing ever happens on restart. It's a loop.
The Windows troubleshooter isn't doing anything other than reporting a windows update data corruption that can't be fixed. I can't reset or upgrade from USB either. Any ideas before I spend several days reinstalling everything from scratch?

Did not work. windows kept crashing after restart. I've reverted to an earlier windows build.

I tried the same earlier btw. As soon as the updates arrived the problem showed up again. I hope it works for you though.

The fix explained in this answers.microsoft.com thread has worked for some to fix this problem: Error 0x80070bc2 during installation KB4074588 - Microsoft Community

    1. In the search box on the taskbar, type cmd.
    2. Right-click Command Prompt in the search results and select Run as administrator. (Select Yes, when prompted by the User Account Control.)
    3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following command and press Enter:
      SC config trustedinstaller start=auto
    4. Restart the PC

    Thanks,

The suggested solution didn't work either but...

I was lucky to get a short power blackout this morning during starting up that led windows in starting startup repair. And guess what. Although it seemed unrelated to the windows update process, it worked!

If you ever find yourself in this boat again, check for information specific to the KB article number. I see, for example, that others also had problems with KB4103727, as reported in this article Solved: Windows 10 KB4103727 Update fails to install on some PCs. You might try visiting the Microsoft Update Catalog to search for and try a manual install of the update (I wrote a TenForums tutorial on this topic: Download and Install Windows Update from Microsoft Update Catalog). If that doesn't work, you should probably reset your update environment, first by running the troubleshooter, and then if necessary performing a manual reset (there's a tutorial on this too: Reset Windows Update in Windows 10).

Thank you very much. The problem here started with 'KB4093105'. It almost took two months and 22 failed installation attempts until yesterday and that startup repair session that seems to have worked. Checking the update installation log right now I see that win10 has auto-skipped 'KB4093105' altogether something that didn't seem possible before.

Wow! That's a long "update hangover" you've finally solved. Glad you got it sorted. Keep up the good work.
Just FYI, if Windows "skips" an update, it's usually because something else that supersedes the skipped item has come along in the meantime. Maybe a recent update or cumulative update has rendered KB4093105 obsolete!
    Best wishes,
