    Windows 10 version update

    I have version 1511. Can I manually update to 1709 with out updating to each version between 1511 and 1709?

    Yes, you can update to the latest version from any version, even the original 1507.

    However, the latest version is 1803 now. If you use the Media Creation Tool to make install media for the manual update 1803 is the version you'll get.

    Is there a particular reason you want 1709? If so, unless you already have the install media for 1709 you'll find it difficult to obtain it from Microsoft now that 1803 is released. Also, if you did update to 1709, then windows update would shortly update that to 1803 anyway.

    Thanks Bree. I just saw that the PC I was working on had version 1507 and thought if I could bypass all the updates up to 1709, it would save time. I said 1709 because my PC is at 1709. I assume you would treat it like any other update and just download it and install. Kinda like the old days when you manually installed a KB###### update?

    Swarfega is right, if windows update was working correctly then it should have automatically updated but now. In fact, it should have updated itself to 1511 back in 2015, then through the other updates to be on at least 1709 by now.

    The simplest and easiest way to manually update to 1803 is to download the ISO, mount it as a virtual drive then run the Setup.exe you'll find there.

    Now I know why it has not been updating. It is trying to update to 1709. The issue is:

    "Windows 10 couldn't be installed"

    "We couldn't update the system reserved partition"

    Click image for larger version.

    I tried resizing it but the free version of partition wizard will not do it.

    EDIT: Turns out the system reserve partition cannot be extended. Did a clean install and everything is working great. Here is a link explaining the issue I had. Maybe someone can benefit from it;
