Ok, how did you do that- restore point? disk image? uninstall that update and each update following? Thanks.
I first tried the only restore point on the system, which I thought was prior to KB4090913 being downloaded. I found out later it wasn't. None of the other restore suggestions worked. I couldn't uninstall updates as KB4090914 would not uninstall. I eventually discovered that KB4090913 was initially downloaded two days before that restore point. I ended up restoring from a system image done several days before KB4090913 was initially downloaded. I have been using a father/son backup set of system images and luckily had one from before the corruption began. I now do a grandfather/father/son system image backup process. I was going to wait until the next cumulative patches came out, but when they did, they would not install either, so the only fix was to take the system back to before KB4090913. When I did, the latest cums and security patches installed without any issues.

    Ah.. disk imaging.. excellent...! Thanks.

Lacking that, my suggestion of using an in-place upgrade repair install (post #2) should effectively achieve the same thing.

I agree, it should, but it did not work for me when I tried the in-place upgrade repair install. Not sure why, but that was an early on suggestion I received here. The system image restore is probably more brute force, and simpler to do, but it worked. Thank goodness.

My OS per winver is v1709 Build 16299.192

So, you are up to date as of -

    January 3, 2018—KB4056892 (OS Build 16299.192)Applies to: Windows 10 version 1709

If this is working fine for you, I would just stay on this build, review the In Place Repair video in the tutorial and when 1803 comes out on ISO in the next couple weeks, you can download it, rewrite the OS and get a fresh start rather than waste time debugging this for a couple weeks usage.
    Okay, mrgeek...that's what I'll do...and THANK YOU.

You, too, dalchina. Yes, I'll wait for the update to the upgrade. Good idea!

    Update Nonsense from Microsoft

You won't believe this, friends, but I think MS has lost its mind.

Despite 20 fails on KB 4074588,
and 9 fails on KB 4090913,
and 14 fails on KB 4058258,
and 24 fails on KB 4088776...

On 4/11..."No updates are available. We'll continue to check daily for newer updates."

On 4/12...Update KB 4093112 failed to install twice.

    On 4/13
..."Your device is up to date." But NONE of the aforementioned updates were successfully installed. All failed.

I think I need lots more coffee (or bourbon) to endure the wait for 1803. But the good news is that my machine is working just fine, thank you!
