By the way, I uninstalled Chrome and am using Firefox right now without a problem. I tried using Edge first, but it won't let me type in the address or search bar.

That doesn't suggest any significant issues e.g. excessive page file use or some resource hog, but I'd expect CPU use when idle to be under 2%, say.

If I don't have browser or anything else open it hoovers between 1- 4%.

I've been in the process of reinstalling Chrome and things seem to be working fine. I wonder if all this wasn't somehow caused by Chrome, altho I didn't realize a browser would cause the OS functions to not work.
After uninstalling Chrome I tried to use Edge and I can not type in the address bar or search bar. I can copy and paste and click on links, but no typing. I did post a separate topic on this so I've already checked that I didn't accidentally put it into Tablet Mode.
I'm going to finish installing Chrome and then restart and see what happens and will get back here with the result.

Right now Chrome is running good. We'll see what happens. I may still use your repair install anyway because I can't get Edge to work and I'm kinda' sick of all these little aggravations.
Later ... I guess I'm going to give up. Everything was working wonderfully and then Chrome froze again and as soon as the browser freezes then even if I can shut it down the rest of my computer is frozen too and I have to force a shutdown.
I'm in Internet Explorer right now and can't hardly type. It skips keys something terrible. Going to go read up on your repair install link.
Everything seems to be related to browsers. I can't type at all in Edge. I can hardly type in IE. Yet I can type fine in my Thunderbird email program and in Firefox and Chrome too but both of those freeze.

Might be as simple as a driver update. Historically some have reported such symptoms related to a bluetooth driver.
Do you use wirelessly connected or bluetooth devices, or wired?
Are you using the laptop's keyboard?

I use usb connected external hard drive and hubs; I have a wireless mouse. I know nothing about what bluetooth even means, and I would doubt I have anything like that.
I happened to click on something in my email, forgetting that Chrome is my default browser. I've been in IE shopping for a 4 GB flash drive to use with media creation tool. Anyway, Chrome opened right up with no problem and that's where I am right now. IE is also still open. At least I can type in this browser. But I have no doubt that I'll end up froze and forcing another shutdown.
I have ordered that usb flash drive from Amazon and it should be here by Tuesday or Wednesday, so I won't do anything about the repair install until I get that.
This has really got me puzzled ('course that don't take much 
) ... how I can now have two browsers open and it's just purring along.

Hi, For the in-place upgrade repair, simply rt cick the iso, click Mount. A new drive letter is created. Then explore that and run setup.exe. No need for a flash drive.
According to the specs I've seen your laptop has a DVD drive. You could burn the iso to a DVD.
You can use any external USB drive.
Note: you don't have to create a bootable disk for the in-place upgrade repair, although it can be useful to have one sometimes. They are of course updated every 6 months.
Yours doesn't seem to have bluetooth - a widely used wireless technology found on some smart phones, TVs, headsets, speakers....

This happened to me a number of months ago. Worse, I could not type in ANY Search box, on the computer or browser (like Search here to find a solution!). I ended up doing a Repair Install and everything ran perfectly afterward. LOT less time consuming than debugging.
Some notes on the process recommended by 'dalchina'. It's very easy to do. The tutorial you were linked to requires little user input, most of it shows you the screens to expect when you run the Repair/In Place Upgrade.
Think of the process as using the mfr's DVD that used to come with computers, way back when, to restore your computer to Day One, only you do not need a usb or dvd and it will not install anything else except Windows and basic drivers, if missing. Go to this page - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10
Simply hit 'Download tool now', run it to download the ISO to Downloads/place on Desktop.
When finished, r-click Mount/Open then run setup.exe in the folder that opens.
You will be given the option to get updates now (recommended). UN-check this so the process is sped up and you will have a baseline version to operate from. (Run Windows Update later, if all is well).
You will then be given the option to Keep your files and apps which you want to do. Then let it do it's thing which will take about 1.5 +/-

Thank you dalchina and mrgeek for all the wonderful information. I think I will go ahead with this repair install based on what both of you explained again today as I don't want to wait for the flash drive. I'm sick of freezing and forcing restarts. So, hopefully I will be getting back to you to tell you this was all a success!

You're welcome ! Do give us feedback on your progress. If you open the above Microsoft page link to download the ISO, just expand the first of the four options below 'Download tool now': 'Using the tool to upgrade this PC to Windows 10' to be reassured of the process. This is the option that applies to you since you can log-in and are upgrading same device.
To reiterate, defer option to get Windows Updates now (recommended) to not only speed up the installation but to isolate if the March update was the cause of your initial issues.
