Windows 10: Windows Update Boot Speed Solved

    Windows Update Boot Speed


    I have noticed that say after a Windows cumulative update Windows at first is a bit slower to load but after say 5 or 6 shutdowns/startups boot time is back up to speed ... anyone know why this is ?

    After any larger update requiring restart it takes some time for everything be set in right places, the right way. Best to leave computer on and on idle an hour or two, depending on it's and HDD speeds. I think that they are letting maintenance do it's thing so updates go faster.

    If you have HDD, this can be due to the Prefetcher being defragmenting and reordering files needed during the boot. The prefetcher need 6 restarts to complete this operation, so that the boot time can be optimized by predicting and caching necessary files for the boot process.

    Just to add that even 24 hours after installing updates and several reboots later I still see files being modified in the background. It can go on for days.
