Thanks for your suggestion, but I had already set my Ethernet connection to metered several weeks before my posting. Even though I am aware that a metered connection can be a solution that will work most of the time, what I was hoping to find was a solution that will work pretty much ALL of the time, i.e. I'm looking for expert views on what could be the most reliable solution of them all. I just don't want to wake up one day and see Windows 10 has automatically rebooted itself due to it having downloaded and installed one security update or the other, as that would be extremely very counter productive to my personal, non-business, hobbyist activities (and that most definitely are the kind of activities that I bought this pre-installed Windows 10 Home laptop for anyway in the first place, if you get what I mean).
I am already well aware of all that, but thanks anyway. I haven't experienced any unexpected reboots other than the ones I could track down (in the Event Viewer) to MusNotificationUx.exe being used by Cumulative updates to schedule them so that is why I am using the temporary workaround I described in my post #4, and, my question is not how to prevent issues that have caused automatic reboots in the past, but rather, how to prevent ones that are going to occur in the future.
AFAIK setting updates to Notify before download does not work with Windows 10 Home, as that has been being one of the primary reasons why so many people either don't want to move to Windows 10 or, like me, are considerering to move back to Windows 7 or 8.1, as doing that would remedy the situation most effectively no doubt...
As for setting Updates to Notify, are you sure this will cause Windows 10 Home to notify me before it downloads and installs ANY kind of security updates, including ones that are deemed "critical" by Microsoft? Because I highly doubt it will, and, the same also applies to disabling Windows Update altogether, but I probably should add that I still want Windows updates, just not the automatic reboots that some of these updates are forcing on me.

Here's my final comment before I terminate my subscription to this thread:
As a Win 10 Pro user with upgrades deferred and updates set to notify, I have never - repeat never- had an unscheduled restart due to an upgrade or update, nor one applied.
You cannot challenge my statement of my personal experience.
Naturally, that does not mean the experience of all others is identical.
After that, as they say, the choice is yours.
The only question I have is that some have found it possible to set updates to Notify using Win 10 Home, others have had difficulty. I wish you good luck in your endeavours to resolve your difficulty.
Here's why I think your terminating your subscription to this thread probably has been your best contribution you've made to it so far.
- Incapability to understand that a scheduled restart will still result in a forced restart if the user is unable to attend the system within a certain, limited time frame after the 'custom restart time' becomes no longer greyed out.
- Making the false assumption that I am challenging your statement of your personal experience
- After that, the choice is rather obvious.
