    Updating Windows 10

    Hi

I am getting an error message 0x8007007e

I have googled and tried many suggestions - all to no avail

    I bought my machine second-hand

On looking at the current version I find I have:-
    Edition windows 10 Pro
    Version 1607
    OS Build 14393.1593

This seems to suggest that the machine has not updated for quite a while

Can anybody help me bring the Windows 10 version up to 1709 ?

Hello Bob, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If you haven't already, you might see if you may be able to use the "Windows 10 Update Assistant" to update to the latest version of Windows 10.

In that case, you should be able to clean install the latest version of Windows 10 if you like.

You would download the latest Windows 10 ISO file, create a bootable USB from the ISO file, boot from the USB, and clean install.

    Hello Bob, :)

What happened when you tried to do a clean install at boot?

    Any error messages?

    Hi

It starts installing Windows 10 - got up to about 25% and then I get a small white window headed Windows 10 Setup
and the message " Windows 10 installation has failed"

    That's it

Just to verify, did you boot from a Windows 10 installation USB to perform a clean install from?

If so, then you might run SeaTools on your hard drive just to rule out any possible issues with it.

yes - I tried a clean install from a bootable USB stick

I downloaded SeaTools for Windows but no drives appear after a scan ?

I should mention that the machine I have is a HP TouchSmart 9100
