Unable to install Windows Fall Creators Update

My computer has been trying to install this update for over a week. Each time I get this error message

"Feature update to Windows 10, version 1709 - Error 0x80070057"

I have tried everything I can find on the net to counter this error message. My question is, is there anything important to the windows system that's required in this update? There is really nothing in it I am interested in. Its obvious that for as long as I own this computer its going to be trying to install this update. So, is there any real fix for this error message?

    Thank you for reading

Please try deleting the content of
    %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download

I then suggest you download a Win 10 iso using the Microsoft Media creation tool and create a bootable disk to try upgrading manually. (Log in as normal, and run setup.exe from that disk).

Downloading it once will let you retry more quickly and possibly avoid other problems if the above doesn't work. You will also have a tool which gives you some simple repair options.

Make sure you disconnect all unnecessary peripherals and disable or uninstall security software.

    If still problems, please
    a. Advise current Windows build (Windows key + R, winver)
    b. Post a screenshot of
    - your Update History
    - your partitions, using Minitool Partition Wizard (free).

Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and post a screenshot of its GUI
If OK, from an admin command prompt run
    chkdsk c: /scan
    and post the result.
If OK, from an admin command prompt run
    SFC /SCANNOW
    and post the result.
    Thanks.

Creator tool wants to reinstall windows. I am not going to lose all the web development tools and other progs I have set up on this computer. I think I am much better off without these creator updates.

However I will move forward with your other suggestions

I should also say that the anniversary update killed my internet speed
The first creators update took all videos out of sync.

I fixed both at once by resetting the windows firewall

I should also ask if I was supposed to boot to that disk. I restarted the computer, logged in and then ran the setup. Didnt actually boot to the disk

Excellent that your disk is good and SFC passed.

Creator tool wants to reinstall windows. I am not going to lose all the web development tools and other progs I have set up on this computer.
I think you're trying to boot from the Win 10 disk you've created. No. Don't do that. That is how to clean install, as you've found.

    I said:
I then suggest you download a Win 10 iso using the Microsoft Media creation tool and create a bootable disk to try upgrading manually. (Log in as normal, and run setup.exe from that disk).
The partitions on your system disk look ok, but I wonder what the first 1 on disk 4 is.

Note the last column, which is not shown on yours (my GPT/UEFI partitions).

Windows update appears to be running normally, which is good.

    Make sure you've done this
Please try deleting the content of
    %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download
before reattempting the upgrade, and disconnect unnecessary peripherals esp. wireless, and disable or uninstall 3rd party security programs and anything that significantly modifies the GUI.

You can attempt the upgrade with the internet disconnected, and opt not to apply updates at that time. This will give you a quicker and simpler way to try the upgrade - you can apply the updates later. (One will be almost as large as the iso).
