Cumulative Update KB4056892 will not install on Ryzen 7

My new Ryzen 7 1800x computer w/ ASUS Crosshair VI Hero motherboard will not install Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for X64 based systems (KB4056892).

Every time my computer gets restarted, it tries to prepare this update before shutting down, then tries to install this update when the computer restarts. Every time it fails to install this update, and then undoes whatever changes it made, before finally booting up.

Once booted up, it downloads this update again, and waits for me to restart the computer. From what I understand, this the Spectre/Meltdown update for Intel computers. Even though I have an AMD Ryzen 7, Microsoft still pushes this update to AMD owners. I don't know how to make it install correctly, or to ignore this update. Please help. This has been going on since they came up with that update maybe a month ago.

    Hi,

I had the same issue - very frustrating.

I did the DISM stuff but had errors that could not be repaired. Finally did an in-place repair/ re-install from a USB drive within windows, including updates. That fixed it, repaired it & all is good now.
Try it & hopefully it will help you too..

Please try below programs one at a time.

Download and run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...troubleshooter

    Automatically reset Windows Update components

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

Please go to this page and download Fix Windows Update by Ramesh Kumar and save to your Desktop.
(Click on the hard drive icon with a downward arrow).
    • Extract it to your Desktop.
    • Then, double-click on the program and click the Fix Windows Update button.
    • Reboot your computer and see if it will work now.

You can also try manually installing the update that is failing.

If you want you can also try my batch script which repairs most of Windows updates installation problems.

When all else fails Microsoft’s wushowhide utility works great.

Wushowhide lets you “hide” the patch while you use Windows Update to get your other patches brought up to date.

Go to KB 3073930 and download Microsoft's Wushowhide tool.

Try to skip this update because it is obsolete. The most recent cumulative update is KB4058258 that will get you to build number 16299.214. I suggest you download KB4058258 manually from the Microsoft update catalogue.

Mr. Hastings is correct: MS issued the 4058258 update primarily to undo what the 4056892 update did to many, many PCs: cause boot- and runtime problems!
