BOINC was using over 12GB. Uninstalled the program and deleted the files from both windows.old and windows. Now 28GB free. Running again.

This time xcopy did the trick. Guess it helps to have room to work with. Don't you ever sleep?

Doesn't look good. Several restarts were showing progress. At 46% the screen went black and no response to the mouse or keyboard. I can hear the pc is still running. I will let it go for the day and see what harms when I get home tonight. Tired of W10 and these update problems. Now that you have saved my data I will probably just do a clean install.

You can download and create latest version of the Windows 10 Installation Media (DVD/USB), with Windows 10 Media Creation Tool.
