Question About Creator's Update 1709 Not Completing

I was getting popups to install this newest creator's update #1709, but I kept closing them until I was ready to do it, and planned to keep my computer on all night for the update.

I've been ready to do it for a week now and haven't gotten any popups, which I was getting every couple of days. I went into Settings/Updates to see if it was there waiting for me to choose a time to install, and there was nothing there.

It did show however, that there have been daily attempts to load the update for the past week......all incomplete and not finished. There's no place to click where I can choose for it to load tonight at a certain time, so I can leave my computer on.

I just want the update to complete, continue from whatever was done and finish it. I don't know much about computers, so I'd like to know what is the best way to get this to finally complete, preferable tonight.

Any advice for the simplest way to proceed it appreciated.

    Hi Bigfoot.

Use this tutorial and create a USB key. When you are ready, install the key, navigate to the key (open it in file explorer) and double click setup.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

While this update is supposed to be non-destructive I always recommend people have a backup of their data.

It is also advisable to have an Image made with a tool like Macrium Reflect. Free, reliable and recommended by members.

Backup and Restore with Macrium Reflect

Other things that help with the upgrade, disconnect unnecessary USB devices and shut down third party AV products.

Thanks for your advice Ken, the update is complete, now I just have to figure out what's different. So far I saw a people icon on my taskbar that I unchecked and hid. Like I said I'm not computer savvy and don't really like any changes or complications.

When I went into settings yesterday after I posted here, and looked at the updates again, there was an option to set a time to restart and complete the download, so all went well and simply.

I hear you, people don't like change. Unfortunately, or fortunately, MS has decided to spoon feed us changes whether we want them or not.

If you go Pro, you can delay up to a year. That said when you do the update it will be a bigger change as it might have two Feature Updates.

The slow and steady approach has its positives but for some it is just more stress.

There is that saying, "The only thing constant is change".

    Glad the forum could help.
