    I Give Up

Tried downloading Windows 10, with my slow capped satellite connection it took 12 hours to get to 90% of the 2.7 gig file, only to have Windows decide that it needs to restart the download. 12 hours after that it finally downloaded and I started the install of Windows 10-but this time Windows decided it needed to go to a black screen of death for an hour, so I manually restart the computer and what happens? I click to install Windows 10 in which it says "starting download 0%". Nice Windows, well played! So now I have 12-24 hours to wait to make another install attempt if I indeed want to try.

I suggest you use the Media Creation Tool to download and create an ISO.

After it re-downloaded the file it installed correctly without any action on my part. After the initial fail it rolled it back to 8.1 and installed a Win 10 driver for my video card, then it installed Windows 10 and this time it actually worked, so i'm not sure if that video card update had anything to do with the fail or not.

Quite possibly. One thing that may not have been in your favor is the satellite service. If the downloading is anything like the MagicJack telephone app., the short hesitation/pause between sending and receiving causes a disconnect, at the wrong time could cause the re-downloading you saw. MagicJack sees that pause as a disconnect and hangs up the phone.
