Windows update stuck at 99% after restore! (Help)

JUST THANK YOU! I created an account on that website just to say thank you. That update ruined my pc, i hat to reinstall windows 3 times and i spent a lot of times on it... It seems to work, at least the update is installed. Thanks again dude

I just restored windows via Flash Drive again after reading this post. After following your instructions, everything is good to go now and I can finally move forward setting up the rest of my apps etc! Problem solved.

Have you checked to see if that update is already installed, I have a few that windows has installed and it tried a few time to reinstall them. some has installed twice and there will be this beside it, (2)..

As soon as I manually installed KB054517, I rebooted, checked update history and it was showing as installed. All other updates completed normal. Everything is still good to go as of this reply. Problem solved

Thank you somedude i have been having this problem for weeks several system restores and fresh installs later i found this forum post and your suggestion worked! I can not thank you enough because this problem basically made my PC unusable, so i wish you a happy holidays and yet again thank you so much.

This fix worked. However, there is also another fix according to Microsoft on January 3, 2018.

Affects O/S: Windows 10 and Windows 10 Pro (1709)

Problem: Update KB4054517 gets stuck at 99% and fails installation. After restarting the computer, Windows will say “Getting Windows Ready, don’t turn off PC,” and can remain in that mode for 30 minutes to several hours. This restart time should only take a minute or less.

Fix Option #1:

• Download and install the Servicing stack update for Windows 10 Version 1709: January 3, 2018

• Restart the machine

Fix Option #2:

• Stop the Windows Update Process. Type “Services” in the Windows Search Bar and open it up
• Stop the Windows Update service
• Delete the SoftwareDistribution folder located in C:\Windows

wow somedude... just wooww I lost everything on my gaming laptop... Not work thank god but just... wow...
