How to stop Windows 10 1709 upgrade?

The other day, I upgraded my computer from Windows 10 1703 to 1709. It broke my display drivers, preventing me from playing Minecraft and also removing the option to put the computer to sleep. No matter what I did, one of them (the GeForce driver) would not get fixed. So I rolled back to 1703, but the fans got higher in pitch and I discovered that it was downloading the update again. How long can I put off updating? Can I stop this completely? If so, how? I am on Windows 10 Home version 1703 (soon to be 1709 if I can't figure this out).

    Block Windows 10 Feature Updates
If you’re looking for solutions to get the Feature Updates blocked or you want delay an Update, below are several ways to do so.

    Defer the Windows 10 Update.
If you’re running Windows 10 Pro, Enterprise or Education, the easiest way to delay the Windows Update is to modify the Windows Update settings
    1. Click Start, and then select Settings.
    2. Go to Update & Security -> Windows Update ->Advanced Options.
    3. Here you can choose either Current Branch or Current Branch for Business where the update is set Current Branch by default.
The Current Branch for Business option lets you defer a feature update for up to 365 days and quality update for up to 30 days.
You can also toggle the Pause Updates option for a temporary delay of Windows 10 updates.

    Modify the Group Policy Editor
You should back-up your registry in case of any unexpected system errors like blue screen, black screen, etc before modifying Group Policy Editor.
    1. Press WIN+R and type gpedit.msc and hit enter.
    2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Defer Windows Updates.
    3. Locate Select when Feature Updates are received option and then double-click on it.
    4. Select Enabled option and then you may choose how many days you want to defer the feature update.
    5. Click Ok to save changes.

As I said in the OP, I am not on Windows 10 Pro, so I can't defer the update.

...or just read the TenForums tutorial on it. It has the links to get it and full instructions on using it. I can confirm that it can hide features updates as easily as any other type.

To prevent automatic download & installation of Windows Updates, including new builds such as the FCU do the following:

    1) Download Windows Update MiniTool
    2) Go into user interface, on the left hand side you will see 'Automatic Updates', change from 'automatically' to 'Notification mode'

After doing the above, whenever there are updates, you will get a popup notification that there are updates to install. When you go into Windows Updates, it will show you the updates available to install & you can click 'install now' If there is one you don't want to install, run the MiniTool & check for updates. When the one that you don't want to install appears in the list, put a check mark beside it & click on the option to hide it. Then, if you go back and re-run Windows Update, that update will not appear again.

If you have Pro you can defer features updates. If you have Home you don't have that option. If you'd prefer not to download a third-party tool, then you can use a Microsoft tool to hide individual updates, including features updates. This tutorial tells you where to get it and how to use it.
