Gateway ZX All In Ones W10 Updates Fail

I have several desktops and all have updated to 1709 just fine except a Gateway ZX6800 AIO. It gets to about 89% then stops with a black screen. Manual shut down causes it to try and recover the update and then rollback to prior version which is 1607. Machine came with W7 MCE and Win10 update failed but I was able to do a clean install which went fine. At that time Device manager showed Avermedia TV tuner and SD reader disabled. I got the SD card reader driver from the GW site and it worked. I also found a driver fir the tuner that worked on the Avermedia.
Interestingly updates within a build number seem to work fine.

I’m guessing to update to current build I’m going to have to do a clean install each time which is time consuming. On last clean install I added a 250GB SSD to it’s 2.5 in expansion slot and a fresh 2TB WD Black. Otherwise the machine is stock. I found clean installs work best if only the SSD is connected and then I point Windows to the data drive after install.

I tried disabling the SD reader and TV tuners and removing the driver but it still would update to FCE. Has anyone figured out a better solution. Thanks in advance.

Try a clean install. All of the failed attempts may have screwed it up or your hard drive or memory is failing

If you did upgrade via Windows Update, at first try to upgrade using installation media (ISO file, DVD, flash).

If it fails too, check the setupact.log file:

Gateway ZX6810 AverMedia TV Tuner Driver is what you need. The only problem is that they do not have a Windows 10 driver. You are going to have to try NextPVR or see if Kodi, SPMC work and have a PVR frontend that will work. There is also Linux that you may find a Media OS version that would work with that tuner.
