Right on - but after this I do recommend that you follow the above procedure for a couple of reasons:

    1. You'll havea completely clean build on a completely clean HD with Windows creating its own partition scheme
    2. You'll have a full Macrium backup that allows you to test a build install, then revert to a clean FCU install with all your apps and whatnot already there, so any new logs from trying different build upgrades can be saved and compared...

And mind you, the above procedure is very abbreviated, I can link to a couple of tutorials that go much more in depth as to how to get it all done.
@Kari has a great tutorial written on how to quickly and cleanly reinstall everything and get yourself back up and running in no time, including the Macrium backup part, but it is a bit different than what I am suggesting - he makes the suggestion that you install the latest FCU / officially released slow ring build and then immediately, without setting anything up, go into Windows Update and update to the latest IP build. Of course, you already have at least one latest IP build already ready to install off USB, and apparently WU is now no longer offering anything beyond 17025 (or may not even be offering that, still trying to catch up in main thread) so clean installing 170225 may or may not work, if your computer is still ahving the incompatibility with the IP builds, at which point you can clean install 16299 (FCU) and rebuild your system to working order and go from there.

Ok mate, I will try your method tomorrow first thing, not sure it will do much good though because I’ve let windows wipe and format the hard disc and a fresh install several times before.

I was going to post all the logs from last week and today but I’m not sure it’s safe to do so on a open forum, where anyone can see personal information in the logs.:)

    Done the Diskpart

I let windows 16299 do what it wants

Installed the few software I always do and got it just right

    Done the Macrium Reflect

Tried the 17046, can’t get past Windows logo.

Went to Stratford computer fair and discovered it’s cheaper to buy online

The only way to install rs4 on this machine is to replace the drivers from 16299 to 17046

But how do we do that?

I think you need to export drivers using Powershell (Admin) from your working windows installation, with the command
    Export-WindowsDriver -Online -Destination D:\Drivers
where D:\drivers is a folder you have made on a destination D: drive (your choice of destination)
    Create a D:\iso folder
Create a d:\mount folder, then you need to open (mount to a virtual DVD) your chosen ISO e.g. from Download Windows 10 Insider Preview Advanced and copy the contents to D:\iso. I would not use an ISO created from UUP files from the 170xx series of builds.

Then mount the boot.wim with DISM
    dism /mount-wim /wimfile:d:\iso\sources\boot.wim /index:2 /mountdir:d:\mount
    then
    dism /image:D:\mount /add-driver /Driver:d:\drivers /recurse
    then
    dism /unmount-wim /mountdir:D:\mount /commit

    then repeat with install.wim

    first check the index:

    dism /Get-WimInfo /WimFile:d:\iso\sources\install.wim

Then if the required image is 1

    dism /mount-wim /wimfile:d:\iso\sources\install.wim /index:1 /mountdir:d:\mount
    then
    dism /image:D:\mount /add-driver /Driver:d:\drivers /recurse
    then
    dism /unmount-wim /mountdir:d:\mount /commit

Now the contents of D:\ISO have had the drivers from 16299 added to the boot and install WIMfiles. None of the 170xx drivers have been removed.

In theory you can now create a USB setup drive or a DVD or just install from the setup files in the ISO folder.

Will this work for you? I don't know! I'm sure if there are deficiencies or improvements to be made, someone will step in to point them out.

I think there’s a very good chance this will work but I’ve just got to get over a few hurdles
    -------------------------------------------------------
I created the D:/ iso and mount folders on D:

    Export-WindowsDriver -Online -Destination D:\Drivers

    Success

    dism /mount-wim /wimfile:d:\iso\sources\boot.wim /index:2 /mountdir:d:\mount

Error: 0xc1420115 The user attempted to mount to a directory that does not exist.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
So I created the C:/ iso and mount folders on C:

    Export-WindowsDriver -Online -Destination C:\Drivers

    Success

    dism /mount-wim /wimfile:c:\iso\sources\boot.wim /index:2 /mountdir:c:\mount

    Success

    dism /image:mount /add-driver:"c:\drivers" /recurse

    Im getting an Error: 2
    Unable to access the image.
Make sure that the image path and the Windows directory for the image exist and you have Read permissions on the folder.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
The path is correct but not sure about permissions

    Any ideas please?

I think I passed on a Syntax error in the DISM command

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/pre...25070(v=win.10)

    Dism /Image:C:\test\offline /Add-Driver /Driver:c:\drivers /Recurse
    now I wrote:

    dism /image:D:\mount /add-driver:"d:\drivers" /recurse

    Wherever this occurs, replace with

    dism /image:D:\mount /add-driver /Driver:"d:\drivers" /recurse

    or

    dism /image:D:\mount /add-driver /Driver:d:\drivers /recurse

(I hate DISM for all the redundant syntax!)

Bordi - since you have this on the C:\ drive:-

    dism /image:C:\mount /add-driver /Driver:C:\drivers /recurse
