Installed kb4046355 and it removes Windows Media Player from PC.

I've just reported this on Windows Insider Feedback Hub:

Installed kb4046355 and it removes Windows Media Player from PC. And installing Build 16299.15 doesn't reinstate it

I installed kb4046355 and it removed Windows Media Player from my Dell Latitude laptop which has been on the Windows Insider program almost from the start.

I paused installing 16299.15 whilst looking for a solution - and was able to see Windows Media Player version 16299.15 in the NewOS folder.

Other web sites encouraged me to believe that I should get a full Windows 10 install from 16299.15, so I un-paused it and allowed it to download again – I used UUPtoISO to create an ISO and then went ahead installing it.

I still do not have any trace of Windows Media Player on my laptop - other than my AppData\Local\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\CurrentDatabase_400.wmdb (which is 153MB) .

    dism /online /Get-Features
    - does not list it as it did before kb404635 was installed
    - and Windows Features/Turn Windows features on or off does not list it.

How do I get Windows Media Player 12 reinstalled?

Good call - that's one place I'd have to go if I wanted to uninstall it. The other is Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off. At least, that's where it is in 15063.

Problem is, if you uninstall it in Settings, it doesn't show in Control Panel!

Correct - if it is not in settings it doesn't appear in Control Panel Windows Features. And when I did an in-place upgrade from the ISO and look at the history in 'Settings/Manage Optional Settings' it appeared to be installed as an optional setting and then uninstalled again straight away.

Thanks for everyone who pitched in to help... I did solve it independently.

    This gave me a clue
    https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/...to-windows-10/

Specifically, to quote from the article:

    “…
    Features on Demand v2

So how do you add these features? There are two approaches, manual and automated. For the manual approach, use the Settings app and navigate to “System –> App & features –> Manage optional features” and click the “+” sign to add a new one.

If you noticed that the list took a while to populate, with the spinning progress wheel, that’s because it’s building this list from Windows Update – that can take some time.
    …”

I now have Windows Media Player working with all of my library (some of which is hand curated by me); playlists and artwork.

    Thanks again.

If you want the media player back you can install it via the Add a Feature setting. Open Settings, go to Apps > Apps & Features, and click on Manage optional features.
