I restored using build 15058 and that immediately started Windows Update, downloading, among other updates, build 16296.0 rs_3.

So far tonight, Windows Update has TRIED to install that Update and failed --twice -- with no reason why each time.

And, I get this notice "Your Microsoft account requires attention to get Insider Preview builds" and there is no Fix This button (as mentioned in other threads about this problem).

WU is now trying to install buils 16296 the third time. If this fails, I am exiting this and restoring from build 16170.0 -- and trying to Upgrade from there.

UPDATE: Installed 16170 -- and Windows tells me it has expired! And, it's trying to download and install 16296. It downloaded 100%, did preparing to install 100%, did updates 100% -- and started over!

In the meantime, I logged into my MS account (to see what was wrong) -- and could see nothing wrong with it. So I have no idea what to do about the "... requires attention ..." message.

Also, my Windows Insider page says SLOW ring, and clicking on the pulldown does not do anything.

    I'm done for today.

I do not blame you. You may want to stop insider builds in WU restart your PC and then get back in it. Then sign out of The Hub, Your MSA and your PC. Then sign back in. Something is mess up at MS. I had no joy with 16299, it will not come out of sleep.

    SUCCESS!!

So, I gave up on the update process and decided to start over. I cloned my Win10 Pro install to a new drive, booted from that, stuck in the USB stick containing Build 16296 -- and ran the update.

THIS TIME, it actually started the update and rebooted -- and the whole process took about 40 minutes.

And now ... I have additional confirmation the reinstall worked because my PC upgraded recently to build 16299 without problems!
