OK so I do a bootable USB with Rufus and Windows is not activated because I downgraded my firmware. F**k you Microsoft.

Edit: After dragging my PKC out of a box where it's sat happily for over two years, I've activated and now it's downloading 16278.1000

    WTF?!?!

Edit 2: Yeah, it's decided I'm now in the Slow Ring.

I'm glad to see you've made progress. It won't let you choose fast ring?

OK so 16278.1000 took, and I'm gunning for fast ring updates.

It was already updating as soon as the ISO was loaded, didn't even have to check. I chose fast ring as soon as I saw it but there wasn't a way to cancel.

The 16278.1000 is fast ring skip ahead, which will become RS_4, which is testing the next major update. 16278.1 is fast ring, which is RS_3 and will become Fall Update. You must've picked and stayed on skippy a few builds back. We are now at a point where we have no choice of ring.

I've only been on the program since trying to install 16281 on Wednesday. I want to test a game on it, but I've wasted two days trying to update my PC's OS. This is not boding well for FCU.

I have had absolutely no issues updating Windows 10 previously, either via ISO, manual patch or WU. Such a shame the Insider builds are so unreliable particularly of late it would seem.

Thanks for your help, it has at least felt like I've not been alone in the dark! @HippsieGypsie

You're quite welcome. I see. I thought you were in the program for awhile. Insider previews go quite well for a majority of us Insiders. Of course there are problems since it's preview builds. It's the risk we take.

I'm sure your Fall update coming soon will go well. You were courteous to work with even though you were frustrated. You take care. Good luck to you.

The Russian download made a Rufus bootable USB from the ISO and installed first time to 16281.1000

It did not fix my issues but there is a newer nVidia driver build than on the nVidia site, how is that even possible?

@winactive, there's a risk installing any preview software and maybe more risk with in-the-wild ISOs. I assume this on your tower, since you have W10 Home Insider listed in your specs, yes? To be sure > Home edition?

A newer driver of any peripheral may be added to Insider ISOs/upgrades so that manufactures can get them tested before releasing them to the public. MS also needs to approve them and then load them into their system for updates and ISOs to the general public.

As an Insider there's a way to get different current build editions than that is listed on the Insider site, but I doubt that we can get 16281.1000 since it's an older build. I'll look when I find time, though. I would offer an ISO, but I run Pro so I don't have Home ISOs. You may want to ask on the threads below to see is someone does. I suppose they can be built with UUP to ISO. I always scan them with AV/AM and have never found any issues, only the superdupa 8in1 type images have anything untoward.

I'll check the threads out but the results have been so uninspiring I'll probably just restore the imaged 15063.608 and wait for the MCT/RTM ISO

I think that to be a wise choice in your situation. Insider previews take a lot of time to deal with. I just received a major problem which affected my main system partition as well.

I'm hoping your games work well with the Fall update. :)
