W10 Insider build 16237 busted comcast mail.

After installing insider build 16237 Comcast mail no longer works. Inserts wrong password (too many characters) and password cannot be changed.

If you cannot change it you may have to contact Comcast.

The password works with Comcast Xfinity email, and it works with Windows live mail. Windows 10 insider build 16237 does not allow me to change the password to the correct one for Comcast mail. I removed the mail and reinstalled it but it just rejects the new password and keeps a password with too many characters. Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo mail all work as before. The problem is with build 16237, not with Comcast mail. When I try to synch there is a triangle in the sync circle and Error Code 0x800706f7 is returned.

I think you are confusing different issues. First, you can't count the number of asterisks in a password field to determine the password length. This is a security feature. Once you enter the password, and save, it will have a pre-defined number of astersisks that are unrelated to your actual password.

Second, Comcast has a specific configuration that uses custom ports and encryption. More than likely, your configuration is incorrect, which is why it's rejecting the password.

Third, Windows Live Mail is no longer supported in Windows 10. I suggest using Thunderbird, or even Windows 10 Mail. If you insist on using WLM, there is configuration instructions here:

Configure Windows Live Mail 2011 for Comcast Email

Note that you have to use SSL settings, and the custom port 993.

As for password length, even if the field appears too short, it will accept longer passwords than it will display. It may not appear so because once the field is filled with *'s it doesn't appear to add more of them, but it does.

Right about what is seen with the password, it's been known as "padding" for a number of years and is intentional in preventing someone trying to guess what it should be, a good security feature for most users. Windows and some sites may show an eye/eyebrow at the right end of the box which will when clicked and held show what has been typed, hides when mouse button released.

I have four computers with Windows 10 fast ring. On the three that were updated to Build 16237 Comcast email no longer works. Comcast email still works on the computer with build 16232. That leads me to believe that the problem arrived with build 16237. Comcast email works fine with WLM and also on my Android with Nougat 7.0. My Comcast email is also working normally when I sign into Xfinity and get my email through the Comcast web page.

I tried deleting the account and reinstalling it. I know the password that I used is the correct one because it works with other email apps. I also experimented with changing smtp and imap numbers and that didn't solve the problem. I believe that Windows Live Mail is a far superior program than the new Windows 10 email system and I hope that sometime in the future Windows will reconsider improving and supporting that or a similar system. Comcast email works fine for me right now with the old and now unsupported WLM email program.

I use Client Ntl (NOW virgin media) this no longer works in this build. After trying to reset the IN/OUT server settings with no joy, I contacted Virgin support and after several attempts with remote acsess to my machine the only way i can use my Ntl account is by using Mozzila thunderbird. There is something changed in the way client servers are set up in this build. My microsoft and Gmail email are as normall.
    Whats going on?.

BY the way my laptop is now doing the same thing. This i havent used for months but after installing all the latest updates it also will not receive emails through the Virgin media sever.

This problem seems to have been fixed. My laptop installed BUILD 16241 and can now send and receive emails in the usual way.
However my main machine can not install this build (don`t Know why) i keep getting the message we will try later.
    regards topper.
