What benchmarking software would that be ?
Can't find these reviews right now, but the first answer here actually explains RAPID very nicely. We usually don't re-read data we just wrote, which is what benchmarking usually does, that explains the results in most benchmarks. That has less to do with real usage though.

Samsung wouldn't say that, but look for benchmarks, the RAPID mode dropped performance quite significantly.
I personally don't see any difference so I keep it off.
It may slow your machine down, if you have Rapid Mode Disabled you might as well remove Samsung Magician.

    Hi,
@IgorEisberg: the benchmarks as per your link actually show the exact opposite of what you posted in posting # 59.
Which is of course logical since Rapid Mode is caching the test files in RAM.
In real use you'd rarely notice a difference.

Do you see there any mention of PowerShell?

An elevated PowerShell is not the same as an elevated Command Prompt. When following advice given, it is recommended to do exatcly as told in instructions.

With my tail between my legs I will follow the advice exactly as given. I have my system set up to use Powershell automatically when entering Commands and thought it did the same thing...boy was I wrong!

Hopefully this will get me out of Build 16199 for good!

    Thanks for your patience...

    Kari,

I did follow your instructions and was able to run Extended Disk Cleanup deleting everything except Previous Versions of Windows so that I would be able to return to the latest build in case the update 16199 to 16215 failed again which it did over and over again in a loop same as before the extended disk cleanup.

after the cleanup I restarted and Windows Update was ready to install update 16215 so I clicked Restart Now and it failed...it didn't find update 16226. Is this because I didn't delete Previous Versions of Windows?

    Hi there
I totally agree with Kari -- while Ms needs to fix stuff there'/s nothing wrong with individuals having a go and maybe fixing stuff so it works straight OOB the next time.

If one follows the argument to its logical conclusion that only Ms should fix things - you could say the same about all sorts of stuff -- people like CEO of Amazon decided that there must be a better way of shopping in C21, UBER suits a lot of people (especially late at night) who can get their cab home instead of hanging around in dodgy neighbourhoods etc .

Without these sorts of people we'd still for example be standing in line for 6 hours in some hideous overcrowded store to buy some items and having to pay via cash or checks (what are those) - as the owners of these stores would see no advantage in altering the system.

I'm 100% grateful to Kari for the time he spends on this stuff and the excellent explanations and tutorials.

    Thanks @Kari

but here's one for you -- made another post -- I'm running 17746 and there seems no way whatsoever to leave the insider program once signed up to it on a particular machine short of restoring an image before you signed up to the program or re-installing windows again from scratch.

It has always been this way.

Think of it like an intercity train journey with Major Stops and a local train at Minor Stops between Major Stops.

The Major Stops are Build Releases. The Minor Stops are the Insider versions.

Once you are on the local train, you cannot get off it until you get to a Major Stop to rejoin the Intercity Train.

Same applies with Insiders - you can only ever leave (keeping everything) until the Insider build coincides with the Release build.

Of course, you can cheat and stop updates (pull the local train emergency switch) but that gets you nowhere.

The only other option is to abandon the build and reinstall Release build from scratch.

Hi guys, please find a link to a guide how to shrink vhds.

It is only for NTFS vhds so does not require the sdelete step which is very slow.

Microsoft OneDrive - Access files anywhere. Create docs with free Office Online.
@Brink - I can send you the word version to add it to tutorial section.if interested.
