The $Windows.~BT directory and new builds

    Hi

I noticed that, upgrading Windows 10 to new builds, the $Windows.~BT directory in its primary partition there more.

So, this directory is no longer created or is moved?

    Thanks

    Bye

Sensibly, IMO, it now seems to end up in \Windows.old\$Windows.~BT

When I Upgraded to CU Version 1703 Build 15063.332 the C:\$Windows.~BT Folder was created on my C: drive [6/2/2017] along with a C:\$Windows.~WS Folder a day later [6/3/2017]. Those Folders do not exist on my Insider Preview Version 1703 Build 16199.1000 computer. There's now 4 current Versions of Win10: 1511, 1607 AU, 1703 CU and 1703 IP. I read that the original Version 1507 has had support dropped. It's important to note the Version and full Build numbers as there are changes between them.

Considering the OP posted this here on the Windows Insider Forum, and mentioned new builds, I assumed the post referred to the current Insider Preview build.

To clarify, my observation in #2 referred to upgrading from 16199 to 16215 where \Windows.old\$Windows.#BT\ seems to be the new location instead of the root folder, where it was left before.

I do not find the $Windows.~BT directory in the \Windows.old directory. Why?

    Thanks

If I restart Windows 10 with advanced options (Shift + Restart) and then open the "Command Prompt" window, how do I view and delete this directory?

    Thanks

    Hi,

No need to do it that way. If you want to remove the folders left behind from the previous version just run "Disk Cleanup" > " Clean Up System FIles" and select what you want removed.

Or do it manually, form Explorer's Menu Bar select "View" and check "Hidden Items" then remove the folder.

    Cheers,

I'm trying to create a custom iso of a build and I want to delete the $Windows.~BT and Windows.old directories before I go into Audit mode.
The problem is that I can not see the $Windows.~BT directory from the "Command Prompt" window opened as shown above. Why?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Why not use the standard ISO of that build and customize that ?
Without really knowing what you'd like to achieve it's hard to guide you.

    Cheers,
