random lack of audio on inline videos in any browser

    Insider 16199

I've noticed that some inline videos on a variety of websites lack audio when clearly they should be some. This happens in Edge and Chrome. Yet another inline video on the same page will play fine. If the video is hosted on YouTube I go to the YT site direct and it is still silent yet it can't be YT can it?

It's entirely possible for you situation to occur as most of the online videos are posted by other people and what/how they do it can affect what you see. I use a small add-in for IE11 and Firefox called Ant.com, adds a Toolbar and usually has no problems with downloads that it recognizes. Some embedded videos simply can't be dealt with easily. And I use VLC for playback as it works with many formats.

So does an inline video embedded in a web page make use of your own video player then?

I haven't noticed Windows Media Player being opened but that may be because of a codec issue as WMP doesn't play many videos.
