    Tell Cortana to shut up


    Build 16199. Cortana keeps opening in the middle of my work, taking over my system telling me it is listening. Bully for her, now bu***r off!!

    How can I stop this please?

    Hi, if I recall a couple of threads here within the last couple of months, the following were reported (experienced by only a few):

    a. Cortana was triggered by music being played, 'Hey Cortana' being erroneously detected. This could be your case?

    b. A touchpad gesture - maybe 3 fingers- I can't recall- was triggering Cortana.
    (However, yours is a desktop).

    Thanks. There was no audio and I wasn't talking to myself at the time. I don't have touch enabled on my desktop PC. I do not wish to disable Cortana obviously. I seem to remember reading somewhere that this is deliberate behaviour instigated by Microsoft to promote Cortana. Maybe for us Insiders only?

    In Cortana settings, try disabling 'Taskbar titbits'.

    Discussion here- but whether it's the same box

    - implies a response to a microphone input.

    At least as a test, you could disable that.
