Oh, hmmmm....are you sure your OS is in good shape? Maybe try an in-place repair?

All you do is download the latest ISO, right-click to mount it, and run setup.exe.
I believe that is what the tech tried last night, but the repair option did not show, which created some confusion. So, fast-forward to today. I talked to a different tech, and after explaining everything, he agreed that I should be good with my link to the MS account, BUT they only support the public release and could not help me with the Insider version. I would have to work through the Windows Insider community. So there you have it.Oh, hmmmm

I still have a few things I want to try, like pushing a fresh copy of 10 over my (ACTIVATED) 7 installation. However, I still suspect that something on their end has me blackballed, so unless there is a way to reset something on their end, I am hosed no matter what I do, short of purchasing a new key, which given all the time I have spent on this, would be a drop in the bucket.
Having said all that, your link posted above is probably what I will try next...
What version Insider are you running?
Looks like they have 15058 and 15063 available for download.
If you're past that, the in-place upgrade can't be done using these. It needs to be the same or later than what's on the system.

You'd have to create your own ISO from the files left on your system, probably using the UUP to ISO method.

Will be interesting if anyone there comes up with a solution other than a clean install.
We have a tutorial now to make an ISO of an existing installation. Using that, you can run an in-place repair. This will keep all apps/applications/data intact.

If you have a fully activated Windows 7, I would just upgrade it to the latest Windows 10 RTM version, get the digital license for Windows 10 re-established and be done with it. A couple hours and your done.
Wow - I skimmed over it. That is a lot to soak up. I enabled the Hyper V, and I will need to reboot for that to work. I will tell you that I am starting to get a little burned out on the activation issues, so I may take a break for a couple of days. This stuff really gets me worked up, and I have a lot of computer hardware reviews I need to work on. (As sort of a hobby, I do reviews for a website).
Yeah, actually, you could create a VM, install the latest Insider ISO available from MS, set it to fast ring, then wait for 16188 to come through. When it says restart now to upgrade, you don't, but rather use the UUP to ISO tutorial to make the ISO for that build. Then use that ISO to do the in-place repair.
It's also possible to just make the ISO from your existing system, if the necessary files still reside (I think) in the Windows.old folder.
Breaks are always good.
