Right - same with me. I have managed to fix these types of things over the years too. When they come up again, I wish I would have documented what I did.

And I tried the command and I get the same message as before after the last command (slmgr /ato).

I don't get the "not activated" watermark either. Just the usual "Evaluation copy. Build blah blah blah" in the bottom right corner of the screen. I was worried when I noticed this activation stuff a couple of builds ago, and nothing became of it. Then the next build would download and the same thing with the activation.

Seems that in the past when it wasn't activated, you would get a reminder with 'so many days left' in the message box.

Have you tried running Microsoft's Activation Troubleshooter?

Interesting - I am on Windows 10 Education. I ran:
    slmgr /upk

That deactivated my Windows 10. Then I went to the activation troubleshooter above and got re-activated right away.

The ADT report looks fine - it's just the digital licence can't be verified. That lies on the MS server and we cannot troubleshoot it locally, unfortunately.

If the Activation troubleshooter does not help, you could try restarting the Client License Service (ClipSVC).

    then...

    slmgr /ato

Restarted the service - and ran slmgr /ato. Same error box as earlier.

I suppose if MS isn't screaming at me for activation, then maybe I should just let it go. I do have an image from a couple months ago, and one from last summer before my switch to Insider. And a spare SSD, so perhaps I will experiment with those.

It's in notification (grace) - once it goes unlicenced the nags will start.

Just something I recall now ... is that digital licences use the change product key link in settings' pop-up box for activation not slmgr as such.

Have you tried using the generic key with that?

Wow - it says "We can't activate Windows on this device as the previous version of Windows was not activated prior to upgrading to Windows 10. Go to the Store (blah blah blah)."

Of course, this is not true. It was activate with Win 7 Ultimate and upgraded to 10 two years ago, with no issues whatsoever. I had the digital license linked to my MS account since last year. So... (rhetorically) What changed???
